I really appreciate your Sunfire repair threads wrf, as there is very little information on those units.

I am glad we are having this conversation.  The tech vs non tech content has been a major schism on the site for the past several years.  Now we are getting some reasons behind the shift in the site.

I also am very appreciative @wrffor your advice.

I and maybe others may have assumed that the techs should know most of the answers to repair questions and would expect them to help.

Sorry guys for expecting techs to chime in. I dont mean to be rude or an ass. Just trying to make sense of everything and maybe it will answer others questions that have never been brought up.

And sometimes being a new member as like we all were at one point see the title of Repair or Tech under their screen name and expect them to help out.

Absolutely - here’s to hoping that the complainers are pacified by the newly created safe environment and begin posting in earnest!

I enjoy the meme threads, much like I used to enjoy the "Do you know any jokes" thread back in the day.  I also enjoy the "What is a woman" and "What are you drinking" threads.  They are not Carver related, but it allows the members to relate to each other and socialize.  We all have found this site out of common interest, but we shouldn't restrict other discussions.  At CarverFest is there a rule that you can only talk about Carver related stuff?  No.  Carver enthusiasts come together and socialize without restriction.  That's how this site should be.  We shouldn't shut down discussion because of some vocal complainers who can't tolerate the opinions of others being expressed.

Personally, I don't engage in the political back and forth, but I do enjoy reading it until it devolves into name calling.  However, if people want to name call, I just don't read it - my choice.

I worry about the good guys you alienate from this site, i.e., the original poster of the meme threads @Daddyjt.  Losing him to mollify a mob of vocal snowflakes is a shame.  This decision to censor is a blunder.

In the end though, Greg, this is your site - you make the rules.  If you think censoring political speech will cause the site to flourish, that is your experiment to make.

I originally joined this site about 10 years ago back then it seemed all discussions were tech and repair based not much else going on and those topics just aren't what I'm interested in back then or now although I can appreciate the need for such a place when you don't work on things yourself and have no interest in ever doing so there isn't much joy in reading about it. Once I figured out what this place was about I stopped coming here.

Now the reason(s) I came back after so much time was to follow the new Carver products and because I pretty much walked away from the Klipsch forum due to censorship. Now they've always had pretty strict rules about discussing politics & religion but they recently banned all discussion on "upgrades" or DIY projects even banned talking about different capacitors in crossovers basically no variation on Klipsch design at all. Complete threads were disappearing in the middle of the night untold number of posts just being deleted without warning or comment. A lot of people have left that site now its a shell of its former self.

As far as the political thread here I seen that it turned to arguments in some cases and it is a very deeply divided subject seems more so now than ever. I chose to limit my participation in the thread and would often go days without reading any of it as its wholly predictable on both sides and a lot of times it seems the "funny" part gets left out even when the posts are intended to be funny they're usually at the expense of the other side.

People do have a choice to click a thread or not it's really quite frustrating to see censorship in any form especially because in this case it was seemingly demanded by I'm guessing one side of the political isle which is a huge win for them in limiting yet another area of social discourse:

I joined this site back in 2009 to get some help with an issue I was having with my m1.0t.

I received help. And was immediately infected with OCCD.

All of which opened up a whole new world of audio wonderment!

I pop in everyday, to learn something and to have a laugh.

There has always been a wonderful, friendly and helpful group here!

Some are gone and are missed, others have joined to fill the void.

In my mind, I consider this ‘The House Of Carver’. It is thecarversite after all.

With that, I have tried to be helpful and respectful.
Well, I guess respectful first, sometimes helpful.

Even though I have not been able to attend Carverfest, I have met several members in person.

All have become close friends!

And that has been the biggest benefit to membership here.

Thanks for all you do, Greg!

I truly appreciate this site.  And, I appreciate all of you who manage this site.  I understand the comments about political posting.  I don't get offended by anything.  But, it can be very annoying to have to skip over all the drama to get to the main reasons I enjoy this site.  Still, as others have pointed out, I think it will be very hard to filter it all out.  It seems everywhere I go on the internet, trolls can take the most benign post and turn into a political argument.  Again, I really don't get offended about their divisive comments, right or left.  But, seriously, can we all just focus for a minute and enjoy topics that bring us together?  We all love music and audio gear.  We all love Carver stuff.  There's enough to debate on those topics... (I always love a good debate on which cables to buy, lol).

Regardless what the future holds,  I want to thank Greg and all of you for the partnership, the advice, and for the good resource this site has been for me.... Here's to a fantastic 2023 and to continued fun on the Carver Site!

Just a comment about those wishing to return to the good old days before people here argued. The site was almost founded on arguments about the MKII. RichP took terrible heat over the mod. People said he was making a big mistake and it couldn't last long, making that power, but it did, and the fighting ended. Rich was proven right. There were post actually threatening RichP. I'm glad Rich was strong willed or he would have gave up.

I dont know what the good ole days were like except from you guys that had experienced it. But I will say this, If it weren't for this site I probably wouldn't have the friends and knowledge that I do now.

Politics and Religion are tough topics just about anywhere because of different thoughts and values. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I just hope to be able to continue to use the

site as I have since I Joined and be a part of this group however I can. :|:

That's true. My comment earlier was actually facetious about there being 'no arguments'. In reality, there were a lot of arguments and a great schism in the community resulted.

Rich did not tolerate BS. When he had the energy, he'd let you have it. He was much more about facts, truth and credibility than 'free speech'.

Freedom requires accountability and responsibility. It's very hard for mods to regulate content. They don't enjoy pissing people off or disenfranchising them over their opinions or comments. We'd much rather allow off topic content and leave the members to self regulate, and accept some moderation when things go off the rails. All the mods here are good, honest people who don't have an ax to grind with anyone over anything. They are also from various perspectives on politics and management.

But it doesn't really matter. Some get really upset if political content is discussed. There's no way to negotiate. It's been tried.

As a few of you might remember, I once asked about whether to keep my job at the local museum. Let's just say that it was more about office politics and keep it at that. I was advised by someone here to assess my priorities in life and weigh them against the angst caused from this job. It wasn't so hard as I imagined, even though some were unhappy with the fact that I left the museum. You can call that a choice (if you don't need the extra income).

Interestingly, I tried once again this summer, after a leave of 1 year to do a bit more work at the museum. Not too surprisingly, I had it out with the boss who is always right. Crap.

You could try and apply this situation with all things public I suppose. What I have found is that you may be the only one left in the room. It takes a bit of stepping back and letting things flow, yet those who are not self aware, seemingly continue to bump up against people with little care or consideration.

     >>>>>>>>>Wow. Let me quickly state that being self aware is not the same language (to me) as being 'woke', which extends into every freaking part of one's personal life! Maybe some of you would see this differently, but I see that a certain bent of the country has made a new word to address their 'splaining of being treated unequally. There see? I have already ruined it for someone out there.<<<<<<<<<<

I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty - The "good 'ol days" are never experienced in a present tense - they are ALWAYS in the rear view mirror.  What seems like a hell scape at the time will eventually be remembered as "the good 'ol days" as time passes.

There is no reason why those threads can't continue. But it would be nice if they didn't occupy most of the 10 active discussion topics day after day.  Many audio threads get pushed off of the active discussion list within hours and disappear into oblivion and 90 percent of the members never get a chance to see it.

I guess those threads are in general discussion NOT audio discussion. My mistake.  Disregard that post.

I was going to say...you can scroll through the Activity Feeds and see everything you missed. You can even make your own Feed to see everything posted since your last visit or last 24 hours or...whatever time you want.

To my knowledge, the main page Recent Topic Feeds don't scroll off too fast. If they ever do, I can always add more topics to display (any Admin can do this).

----

Moreover, there is a link on the Main Page on the right sidebar to take you directly to the Audio Topics and so one doesn't even have to look at the off-topic feeds.

If @Charlie's News Topics ever become a bother, I can set up another topic feed just for News. That way, other Off-Topic stuff doesn't get blasted off.

I'm here to solve problems. I can make things change. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE.

Don't complain - call me!

Sorry, I couldn't resist...,

...but reading this from @Rob, reminded me of this:

And I do think the solution is about how to "place" the non audio stuff so non-audio posts are adjunct to the core purpose of the site..."

I know. Complaining is fun.

AFAIK - the political meme thread didn't show in the Activity Feed. If it did, I could have fixed that.

But like I said, it doesn't matter. The complaints are not concerned with accessibility. They're about the content no matter where it is.

Some don't even want the Thunderdome here...even though it's full of warnings and doesn't show up anywhere except at the very bottom of the main page.
