Hello all,

I have hundreds of CD's that I'd like to rip using a Mac.

What do you all use when ripping CD's? I don't mind paying for good software.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I ripped most of my CDs onto a Mac years ago. At that time, no special software was required, ripping was part of the "iTunes" application. My 2010 Mac also had an optical drive. Most (all?) Macs have not had an optical drive for many years .... maybe you have an external one? Additionally, iTunes is a thing of the past, but I would think the Apple Music app has ripping capability? Apple Music has fully replaced iTunes.

Apple Music will still rip CDs into MP3, Apple Lossless, AAC, AIF and Wav formats.  I prefer FLAC.  Flac is lossless without fooling around and is pretty much universally accepted.  I've run FLAC with Sonos, Cambridge Audio and various Logitech devices.

My preferred software has been dBpoweramp.  It can get confusing to use (or maybe I'm just easily confused), but it rips quickly, retrieves album art and sets all the track, artist, genre, album and other tags properly.  If you dig into the details, it will even set the file name as you please.  Free 21 day trial.  The about $50 to buy.  I bought my copy well over 10 years ago and they are still updating it.

Strongly recommend you fool around with it before ripping 100's of CDs.  File naming, tags and directory structures can get tricky depending on your player.  Worst thing is to rip 100 CDs only to get smart and realize you have to di it again.

^^This.

I’ve been using it for 10-12 years as well.  Added to what Wayne said, it’s also pretty quick on the rips - about 90-120 seconds per CD.  It will also downconvert too - I’ve ripped a couple of my FLAC files to mp3 so my daughter could add them to her MP3 player.

DBpoweramp is a dream..., and if you have a lot of CDs, or an audio-club that wants to do this, and you want to take it to the next level of automation..., you'll want one of these - an Acronova Nimbie BR/CD/DVD autoloader.  The Nimbie works with DBpoweramp software..., DBpoweramp website even recommends this drive. (Using your imagination..., and considering all your friends with CDs..., you can see how this can expand your digitally-ripped CD library..., really big, really fast!)  Pricey..., but if you split the cost with 10 of your audio-club friends..., it's affordable.

True statement..., and if you automate, you'll definitely want to think carefully about how you set this all up, to get the outcome you want.

I've ripped about six CD's so far using the new ripping software and all looks good.

I'm waiting for a new SSD drive and then I'll connect it up to my Node2.

That Acronova looks pretty cool but it is pricey. Good thing I'm retired with lot's of time to rip CD's. 😃
