John Howell 51
Hi All, I found this site when I bought a partially functional PM600 with the aim of learning more about the amps and possibly fixing it. My history with Carver amps is I bought a Carver 1.5t and later a C4000 preamplifier when I left university in the late 80s, to drive my JBL L112s. These are largely the cause of my poor hearing in both ears now. Nowadays I have ME amplifiers and Duntech speakers as the main hi-fi but I am very interested in getting the PM600 going and watching those LEDs dance. One channel works (sort of) and I was hoping to debug it a little more with some hints from members of this site. I have a dual channel CRO and a Electronics degree (but not much practical experience). Just having had a bit of fun in my sparse spare time finding out how the amplifiers work (with the triac driving the transformer) from the service manuals. I also now realise just how old these amplifiers are now.... time moves on quickly! And I ain't getting any younger either.

3M_Audio 1,341
Welcome! One nice thing about the vintage Carver gear is that it's all serviceable and can perform as good as, or better, than new once restored.

John Howell 51
Currently working on getting to "Novice" so I can post pics... last night and this morning wrestling with getting the main circuit board out. Must be some mysterious force holding it in. Wish the service panel underneath was a bit wider - tose rubber spacers melted all over the board, under where I can't get to. Time for a bar of Solvol on the fingers
