New to the Carver experience. Obtained TFM 35x, C-1, and TX-11 in a package deal.  Would like to upgrade my C-1 with a C-19.

Hi Thom, and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us.

I moved your post from the Website Support forum to The Welcome Shop. Website Support is for reporting issues with the site.

C-19's pop up from time to time on ebay, Audiogon, and Audiomart. You might set up some searches on each of those site, and turn on notifications so that you know when one pops up.

Have you considered the BillD mod for your C-1? That modification raises a C-1 to a level playing field with preamps costing 5x or more the price.

Whatever you decide to do, welcome aboard!

Thank you for correcting my post location and for your C-19 search suggestions.  I have considered the BillD upgrade.  When my TFM-35x comes back from Nelion, I’ll either send them my C-1 for an upgrade or pick up a C-19 if available. Thanks again, I’m glad to have found this site!

@Thom Welcome to the Carver Site!!

Being new to the Carver experience you started off with some nice pieces of equipment, and the topper is that you found Nelion. One option to consider while waiting for a C-19, is to have Nelion do the restore and BillD upgrade on the C-1.

No matter which way you go it's a win win proposition!!

Once again Welcome to the Carver Site!!

As you search for the C-19, the C-1 with a BillD (or without! - check members gear for sale, a member has listed a pristine tested original C-1 for sale you might like...

On the C-19, just a thought to share with you..., the C-19 is really not a true "tube" preamp, it is in Bob Carver's writte-up in the preface of the manual a hybrid Solid-state/Tube preamp, employing tubes in Bob's design where they can enhance power (tone crontrols, phono-stage, etc. taking that directly from the manual).

Another important factor is that the C-19 does NOT have sonic holography as a native feature like the C-1, C-11, C-16 have, with a on/off button for SH on the front faceplate.  To get sonic holography with at C-19, you'll need to have a C-9 sonic holography generator (or the more rare ECS-U speaker control unit from Carver).  Just something to bear in mind.  A good read of the C-19 owner's manual, you can find in the Manuals Library here on our site, is a good place to get an understanding of what the C-19 does, how it works, and such, as you pursue finding one of your own.

Even so, the C-19 is a fabulous preamp, and highly coveted.  Best of luck on your journey to land one!

Over the past 20 years..., going through the full catalog of Carver gear..., I've found that "it's a journey, not a destination" is a great way to think of your engaging in the "Carver Experience."

So many choices, so many options, so many configurations, ..., and then there are your speaker choices. LoL

Enjoy the ride!  |-|
