Hello all, I have a Carver M-200t and am having what I consider an issue. When passing audio the protect LED flashes seemingly randomly. The audio sounds clean to me in fact this amp sounds great. I did a total recap on it and this is the last issue that’s bugging me. Any ideas where I might look? I’ve scoured the schematic in the service manual to no avail.

Hi Shelby and welcome!

Random is always frustrating. A couple of questions...

Was the amp doing this before the recap and any other service work, as well? Is there any audio effect accompanying that LED flash or just the flashing? And have you verified all the voltages in the unit are stable & to spec?

Hello Shelby, and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us.

The M200t is a great amp, and it's what I have powering my backyard setup. The one I have is tough as nails too. It's in a building that's neither heated or cooled with a lot of dust. That amp runs 24/7 from early spring to late summer. If I don't have that system running, the sparrows build nests on top of the speakers.

My amp does exactly what you describe, and it has for several years now. One of these days, probably when it fails, I'll send it in to get it refreshed, refurbed, and upgraded.

@Shelby Burkhardt Can you post what you wrote in the "Recent status updates" here in this thread about fixing the problem you encountered with your M-200t.

Number one - posting in the status updates will not register for your post count.

Number two - You will not get reactions for your posts in that section. This also helps to advance you to the next level.

Number three - Posting here will better record what was found to fix the problem so when others use the search function for maybe the same subject it will be found.

The content posted in the "Recent Status Updates" will not be found when the search function is used.

Welcome Shelby. I would make sure that ALL solder joints are good everywhere on the board and as @3M_Audio asked, did it do this before you capped it? I would go over all the solder joints with a fine tooth comb and make sure the board is clean, no broken traces, and no backwards installation of caps. Wiggle the transistors and watch for solder breaks. If there are areas showing heat discoloration, I would check those areas too for bad solder joints and bad components. And when I restore those amps, I always rebuild the bridges. I have replaced quite a few diodes in those M200t’s
