Hi Guys.

I'm Matt from the UK and I'm a pro live sound engineer based in the midlands/northwest. I largely work at a venue called the Rigger however I also partner in a pro audio hire company called The Art Of Sound.

My connection with Carver amps spans 10 years. Our old system at the Rigger consisted of a Martin Audio rig powered by two Carver PT2400s. We later upgraded by adding more subs, making both the Carver PTs drive those whilst a newly acquired Crown Macrotech 1200 ran the tops. This rig was later broken up and most of it sold but I made a point to buy one of the PT2400s as they're such a great monster. These days, we run a tri-amplified Yamaha US spec F15 Pros and custom made 90 degree 1x18" horn system of 7.2kW powered by Crown Macrotechs.

The Art Of Sound rigs are Peavey (please don't shoot me, I've spent a lot of time making them work correctlty!) HiSys 3 with dual matching 118XT subs powered by a combination of JBL and Crown amps. We are currently building a monster rig of 4 sets of EAW 695 tops and 8 250z subwoofers for large events and outdoors. I plan to use a combination of Crown Macrotech and Carver PT series power amplifiers.

Currently my PT2400 is out of action as it seems to have two ill power supplies but I intend to get it repaired and installed with a number of other PT2400 amplifiers to drive the bottom end. I'd decided to employ the old Carvers for this task as they're still monsterously powerful and in my opinion out stomp and out perform the JBL MPX1200, they out stomp the Macrotech  2400 (but not quite a 3600) and Lab Gruppen amps are far too expensive.

Anyway I've been in pro audio for the last 11 years and there's still not many amps that offer the same level of performance as the PT gives.

It's nice to be among like minded folks.

I've never been part of an audio forum but I'm looking forward to becoming part of the Carver community. Maybe i'll buy some Carver HiFi stuff as the PT is a bit big for home use!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks. I intend to be a long time stayer here although my Phase Linear/Carver/Sunfire product knowledge is limited but i do intend to learn!

I have plenty of experience as an engineer on the pro scene so i'll try to help on that front.

Its been great to talk to the man himself about my old PT and about those newly made high power valve amplifiers he's putting out, seems a great guy.

I guess too much is never enough!

Looks like I'll have to get myself some posh speakers and a TFM 75!

My home setup is a mish/mash of all sorts. I have a Linear Conchord 30 with two Goodmans Audiom loaded 1x12"s 'stack'. A custom built valve amplifier that my stepdad built using main components from a Linear L50 but the circuit is uprated Marshall using a diode rectifier and a pair of Tung Sol 6550 output valves, it was metered making 62w at clip threshold. It drives an HH loaded 1x15" WEM enclosure. I plan to make a 2x12" + HF for it to drive as I recntly acquired some EVD 12L speakers. These valve amps run full range. I also have a Crest Audio VS650 power amplifier that drives my Goodmans loaded WEM 1x15" and this is used to deal with the low end taking the 75hz lo-pass output from my Mackie mixing desk. Lastly and most shamefully, I have some nasty 2way computer 'HiFi' speakers that deal with the top end. It sounds acceptable just about and for any home recording, I can work round its flaws!

I'll post some pix I get chance.

Howdy Matt and welcome to the forum. Glad you found us.
Sorry I'm late to the party but I've been without power for the last week due to Hurricane Irene.

I'd looked at buying a PT2400 but wound up with a trio of PM1200's for roughly the same cost.
I use 2 of them to drive my home subs when they aren't powering my teenage son's PA system.
I'm planning to build some PA subs soon. Maybe you could give me some pointers?

Hi Mr Zumbini, thanks for the reply. Hope the hurricane hasn't casused you too much difficulty.

Three amps for the price of one certainly sounds like a bargain to me, good call.

With regards to desiging subs, let me know what type of enclosure you want and the driver you intend to use. Some speakers work best in a sealed enclosure whereas others work better in a vented box or bandpass style box. Also let me know the size of the driver and the power handling requirements of the enclosure. For example, you may want a compact 400w 1x15 type box for hauling from place to place or you might want to go full scale and opt for a 1800w 2x18 single tuned band pass enclosure that will do 26hz...

Whatever your requirements are, let me know and i'm happy to help. Cheers, Matt
