WOW Gene!!!! That is one IMPRESSIVE system you have there!!! I'm working on getting mine setup to a 7.1 (just a 5.1 right now), but your setup has brought on some SERIOUS 'woofer' envy LOL!!! Love the look of those 45's and all of the blue LED's!!!!

Hey Gene!

Nice TT setup! My plan is kve's Rotel soon, into my C-11. How in the world do you dampen vibration and keep it away from the needle? I was thinking about a polished chunk of granite, since I dedicate a lot of power to four sub enclosures.....or do you just use the colume control with more discretion?

I use my Apple TV to tx my ripped library from my host pc across the house from my office to my HT. I see you use an Apple TV also, do you store any ripped media digitally? If you use the ATV what do you think of the sound reproduction?

Thanks

Thanks Zoom. I do have about 90gb of ripped music AAC most at 256kbps some at 128kbps including ITunes music on the PC's external firewire. Same files that are on the ipod through iTunes. The apple TV I find is very decent and does sound good, but I only have it going when we have a bunch of people over for background music or Ill plug my ipod into the 171i dock. The new RPM 5.1 didn't really need the isolation platter, its actually very silent by itself. But if you notice where one of the front subs are and how close to the cabinet it is, just playing it safe. You might want to do some thread searching here on what members have used for that, not a whole lot of experience with granite for me.

Well I've decided to swap the TGP-III out for the IV here in the next few minutes. Going to write down all of III's settings so this might take an hour to accomplish, hopefully there will be no swearing involved as I brave the infinite connects behind the cabinet. happy0009.gif

Surprisingly there is a slight difference in sound between the PL II and PL IIx I'm happy to report, certainly made the swap worth while. In PL IIx movie the back surround souded a bit brighter than in PL II movie. The settings were next to each other on the tree so it was easy to pick out right away. Other than that with music and movies the rest sounds the same as the TGP-III.

DTS is soooo much better than PL though.

Proof: Get U-571 and watch it in DTS. I needn't say anything else.

Yes, you are right Greg. The PL IIx is good for watching analog sources, have analog and digital from the cable box. As far as movies go on the Oppo BDP-95? The III and IV have DTS-ES and the true 7.1 multichannel inputs which are also being fed by the Oppo. 7.1 trumps those other features but lacks in the bass department, remember, I have 4 subs in the living room so you can really tell.

Sorry I don't understand...

7.1 trumps what and lacks bass compared to what specifically?

Just meant when bypassing the DSP on the TGP with the Oppo's 8ch setup the bass was lacking, but the channels were crystal clear and the separation between the channels is scary.

This is almost always an issue when using multi ch analog outputs. Most quality units (Oppo included) have on board bass management. A few minutes of tweeking, and you will have exactly what you have with the outboard processing.

Bass management? Where's that setting at Mark? All I did was trim distance and even set the slope for 80hz same as the TGP. LFE is set at +12 on the oppo, is there another setting I missed?

It sounds crazy, but go into the oppo menu and set main speakers to "small". Then set the cross over frequency to 40hz. In my Set up, this really livened up the bass. Then adjust the bass level output on the oppo to the desired level of punch:-)

+12dB yikes. I wonder if you're not over-driving your subs from the Oppo then? Just curious, because if you're using class-D plates on those subs they won't clip but they will current limit. Also, if you're using Carver amps, a clipping 40Hz signal at 400W (well, what should be 400W) sounds about the same as a clean 200W unclipped signal.

And I'm sorry but I just have to say while we're talking about it, class D is the way to go for subs.

The subs are dialed back pretty good due to 4 of them being in the room. No distortion at extreme volume either which is nice. The only thing I can think of is the DSP on the Oppo is not the same as the TGP. Going to try and set the main speakers on small and see if that does anything. Noticed on the IV an hour ago the test tone for the sub channel was a little fucked up. So back in went the III and the IV is going to get checked out at my buddy's place.

EDIT: Looks like the sub trim was at 2 and not 12 and the left speaker was the only one set to large. out.gif Musta been smoking some funny shit when I was in there last time, who knows. face20.gif
