I like that lamp on top of the cabinets. Does the meter spin?

Yes it does, but slowly since I have an LED bulb in it. I found that at an antique store for $40.00 and had to have it. My dad performed electrical work for high line, residential, and substation for the local utility company (distribution end) while I was employed at the generation end (power plants). Interesting how that worked out though not with the same company. I didn’t plan it that way, its what fell into my lap.......grin

It's built out of 2x stock and plywood. It was a fun project to practice cutting bird's mouth, half lap, and bridle joints.

@PhilDent, I still think your workbench looks more like a nice bartop, than a workbench!  😎

I agree @4krow - some of those workbenches put the best parts of my home to shame.  Just amazing.

I'd toss in a copy of my workbench, but I haven't seen it in 10 years, sigh!  Need some dynamite or perhaps C4 to clean off the crap.  :-$

But there's no room for a bartender 😐

Actually, I did make it roughly "bar height".  I wanted to have it be ergonomical and tall enough so that I could store my table saw under it.

If you are cutting your own birds mouth joints, you got me beat. I found a birds mouth router bit from Lee Valley Tools for that task.

Ok guys, this all has shamed me into some attempt at clearing the debris and general disorder off the bench space (no, not onto the floor). Isn't it something how you walk right past something that you quit staring at months ago because what's the use? FWIW, I did clean off my woodworking bench out in the garage.

Some good ideas here to consider too. Thanks for that.

Well I finally got my bench back and ready to do some work! After more than a year I am gonna start with something easy I think as I am certain my skills are a little rusty. So it's gonna be a re-furb of an old Magnavox 8802. See if I remember any of the tricks Bob taught me??

VERY nice setup!  It looks far too organized and, well, usable.  Shall I come mess it up?  :)

Sounds like things are coming together for you, inside, outside, and with just enough work to leave you a life.  ~^

Well being just retired has left me looking and finding things to do while the whole time watching my budget. Like the bench. I called the guy that built and supplied our new cabinets and asked him to keep an eye open for a set of base cabinets I could use that was being replaced. He called and the homeowners were getting a new set of kitchen cabinets with granite tops so the old ones with butcher block tops were getting ripped out. Bingo! I took the sink cab and 2 of the short cabs. Just a little beefing up and putting them on caster wheels with some paint. Cut and sanded the butcher tops down and refinished with danish oil. All 3 sections worked out well. A heck of a lot nicer than my old bench for sure. We insulated the garage when we built so a little heater and I am comfy. Now every-time I make a little mess I clean it up especially as if I don't I can't get my Mustang in the garage8---

PS

Charlie's Karma Tenma 72-8710 100MHZ, Dual Channel Oscilliscope  fits perfect!!

Catch as catch can I always say. My workbench tops also started out as salvage.

(And I can live with the pink formica as long as I keep it well covered ... ) <G>

PS - I couldn't get down there for a couple years after a major bike accident, and it's still a bit of a struggle handling the steps into the basement, but once down there and planted in the seat, it actually works quite well. One advantage of the small space is most all the important stuff is well within reach without having to get up. Planning for the future? Nahhh ... pure dumb luck it got built the way it did way back when.

Anyone make any changes to their workbench or shop?  Any new members want to share you hobby area?

My bench I built in 2012 was getting a bit rickety and worn.  The top was stool height and I grew tired on climbing up and off my stool.  So time for a new bench.  Adjusted for the lowest setting on my stool I can now rest my feet on the floor.  I bought a new full size ESD mat for the top.  Plenty of LED lights for these old eyes.  This bench should last me.   It looks neat now but give me a few month to fill it with clutter.

Too clean - that's not normal!  What planet are you both from?!  :b--

I do see one major failing on both benches - a decided lack of a bench audio system and speakers.  Hopefully something appropriate is lurking just out of camera range,  or behind the camera.  :D

Well, you asked for it Brian, LOL! This is what I'm currently listening to when I'm working. Recently swapped out a C-1 and M1.5t to put a restored Pioneer SX-750 receiver into rotation. The SX-990 at the bottom left of the rack will probably get swapped in next.

If I'm feeling too lazy to walk across the room I will just listen to the Technics Micro Series system that is on the shelf at the work bench. After all this hobby does require that we have choice. 😁

I know more of you guys have work benches.

It's been at least 12 years since I've seen mine.  I think it would take copious amounts of C-4 to clean it enough to use.

Holy crap Dennis! Beautiful system! What are the speakers? Also, is the TEAC streamer the same one you had the last time I visited?

This is a different type of work bench. I built it for my woodworking projects. It's primarily an assembly table with space below for all my hand/power tools. It also is the proper height to be used as an outfeed table for my table saw, and it can be split into pieces and stored easily.
