  1. Just got off the phone with Polk, LSi 15's are on the way!!! $849 plus tax and free shipping, damn hard to beat. Thanks or all the help amigos!
  2. Good to meet you brother! Thanks again.
  3. Bi-amping on your LSi 15's isnt worth it. Your TFM will provide more than adequate power for them. If you were to do anything either make some custom jumpers of your own, or get some bi-wire speaker cables. I drive my LSi 15's with a Carver AV-705x and they sound great with just the 705x. I have a Carver M1.0t at Vintage Hi-Fi getting a tune up and it will be driving them shortly. I have done the db840 mod on mine and they do sound much better. I would suggest waiting till Crutchfield has a buy one get one free sale on the Polk stuff. They do that sale every couple months. You could save yourself a couple bucks doing that. Plus then you will be able to hear the difference between the stock and aftermarket sub. The TFM-25 would be much better suited for the SDA's or heck even use it for the LSi's and the 35 for the SDA's Thanks! Helicopterpilotdoug is hooking me up with some cables and I'm going to also get him to make me some jumpers. I'll use the 35 on the LSi's till my shop is finished out then I should have the 25 back and I'll decide which amp goes where. I really appreciate the feedback! My shop is just bare walls right now and hopefully this week we will be runnng the 100a electric service to it, then wiring, insulation and drywall. Gonna be nice having a playhouse!
  4. Been a Club Polk member since 2001....I'm an oldtimer.
  5. LSi15's $849 with free shipping! I'm pulling the trigger on Monday via telephone and try to pay for faster shipping rather than do it online. You can pop out the stock 8" woofer and drop in a polk DB840(SVC) ($57 each on Amazon) and it gives them more guts in the low end.I'm going to push them with my trusty TFM-35 and I think at 4 ohms thats about 380wpc. Using my new Yamaha RX-A820 then running the front channels through the pre outs to the Carver. I like using my ipad/iphone app as a remote with the Yamaha..great app! I have it all set up wireless via a bridge along with my Roku and PS3, can even see my movies and pics on my PC. Amazing stuff these days. Now I just need to get my poor old TFM-25 fixed for bi-amping or using it on my SDA's in my shop along with my C-1.
  6. Sold my MartinLogan Source speakers today and it's time to buy some new stuff. The ML's sounded good on axis but were awful for HT use. I like 'em big and loud. I'll be pushing whatever I get with a TFM-35.I do about 50/50 2 channel and HT use. My wife won't let me put my Polk SDA1C's in the living room....soooo. Suggestions, thoughts, recommendations?
  7. I was given a pair years ago by a client. I called Mr Erath in Louisiana and he was more than glad to explain how to hook them up to an old tube amp I had (Scott I think). He was a super nice guy and seemed to be thrilled to discuss the speakers with me. I think he started making them out of his home garage in Houston years ago. "In 1965, Sennheiser Electronics introduced the Philharmonic sound system, which used electronics to overcome some of the problems ordinary woofer subsystems confront. They added a motion sensor to the woofer, and used the signal corresponding to its actual motion to feedback as a control input to a specially designed amplifier. If carefully done, this can improve performance (both in 'tightness', and extension of low frequency performance) considerably at the expense of flexibility (the amplifier and the speaker are tied together permanently) and cost. In the US, L W Erath, an oil industry engineer, introduced a line of high end speakers along very much the same lines"
  8. Thank you! Born and raised in good ol South Austin !
  9. TNrabbit, yes I still have the tfm-25 but not the old C-1. Would love to send the new C-1, TFM-35 and the old 25 to someone to mod/repair...I especially want the remote mod and blue led's. Bluespwr, I actually dabble in the music biz as well as owning an ac company, produced a few projects, done some writing and managed a few bands as well. Most of my friends are local musicians, Jon Dee Graham is my amigo and one of our true treasures. I once worked for audio god Rupert Neve and was partners in a company called Burgin McDaniel Designs, we built pro studio gear (all analog). We have a pavillion on our property and have parties and house concerts all the time. Lately I've been digging a kid from Oklahoma named John Fullbright...he is an amazing talent. I'm 44 so I still like my old REM, The Tragically Hip, Crowded House/ Neil Finn, Willie, Waylon, Lyle Lovett....and of course being a native Austinite I do love me some blues...SRV, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins ect. I listen to pretty much everything under the sun. Check out John Fullbright on youtube, song called "Gawd Above". Then check out Jon Dee Graham doing "Faithless"....this type of music is my main staple, kinda americana roots stuff. Thanks for the welcome...enjoy the tunes!
  10. First off, great site! I am in the process of replacing some Carver gear a friend was storing for me, he got a divorce and his wife threw all his (and my stuff) out in the yard. I lost a tfm35 and a C-1 pre. When I found them they were all gunked up as it had rained and I just about cried. Today I received a mint C-1 with manual and an original brochure of the entire Carver line at the time! Next week I'm expecting a TFM-35 as well. These components will be paired with my beloved Polk SDA 1C speakers in a new workshop that will be finished in the next couple of weeks....wife says the big stuff is not allowed in the living room. I look forward to learning about some mods and bringing these gems back up to modern condition (caps ect), and learning from my fellow Carver fans. I've read a good deal about the BillD mods and am sorry to hear he has passed, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend someone who can do both the TFM-35 and the C-1 mods for me. I can solder and have worked in the music bidness but would rather not fool with it as I stay pretty busy this time of year as the owner of an air conditioning company (gets hot down here). Glad to be here and look forward to learning lots from the site!
