  1. Thanks for the info Jim, I never really thought about going that way. Any sites you recommend, speaker brands, etc. My wifes sister and her husband live in Cascade, we get over to GR a lot. might have to track you down on of these days. I think I saw a post you made about getting some tubes. I was looking at some lamps online and they used old tubes. Do you have any that would work for something like that an maybe some sockets. Bigger the better
  2. Hey JIM and Paul, I don't know, I may still be to new of a member to get in on the Karma. I am a cabinetmaker so beat up boxes don't bother me, like Jim said it's what's on the inside that counts. That is what started this looking on Ebay. I have also been told the old EPI's 100's 201's are pretty decent also DCM time windows. I have mainly had Infinity's so I know where you are coming from Paul. I had a pair of 1001A's and a pair of the original Monitors with the Walsh tweeters. Infinity's seam to be pretty popular With the Carver crowd
  3. Hey Hewlew I don't know if I will be able to audition them. all the speakers work, they do need some woofer refoaming. They are a lot less than 350.00. you know the old saying, If it's to good to be true... You are happy with yours, were those what you were looking for or what you ended up with Paul
  4. Hey Jim, Know wounder you got all those sales awards. Right now they are going in my cabinet shop, its 28' x 32' x12H very live environment. right now I have some Infinity 1001's with radio shack woofers( only $40.00 on CR) that will be replaced with some Watkins woofers when the pocket book allows. Right now I am Using the preamp from my HR 752 and M500t amp that I just got yesterday to drive the Infinity's. Right now I am in the bang for the buck mode as far as speakers go. I need a preamp And I have a HR 895, PM 1.5, and MXR 130 that all need some work. realizing that everyone has a preferred taste in sound,my real question is, are the rsIIIb's one of the more desirable series of old school Infinity's. Right now I just need a decent pair while I am building my system.
  5. I am looking for a new set of speakers. I see a lot of people with infinity speakers on the site. I have always been partial to Infinity having owned a pair of 1001a's and a pair of the original monitors with the Walsh tweeters back in the late 70's early 80's. I found a pair RS3b locally that appear to be a good deal. I see these on Ebay asking 800 to 1200 bucks. Any one have any thoughts on pricing and the quality of the speaker it self. Down the road I would like to have some Kappas or Martin Logan but my pocket book is calling the shots right now.
  6. Amen brother, I have been looking for a pair for two years now finally found some. Gene C hooked me up with Mike Marks, I am working on some original woofers to install in them someone took them out along time ago. Kind of a tribute to my late brother. Back in the day he came home with a pair of those, a Spectro Acoustics 101 preamp A Micro Sieki direct drive turn table and this crazy huge amp, A phase linear 400. That system was probably the start of my tinnitus.
  7. Good Afternoon, I just picked up a pair of Infinity 1001's. Some replaced the original woofers with Radio Shack woofers. I am looking for a pair of original woofers, something that can be refoamed or worth repairing. Infinity site says NLA, suggested replacement is # 902-1187. If anyone has any info or rebuildable woofers please give me a holler . I had a pair of these in the late 70's seems the cone was covered with tar from the edge of the center cap out about half way to the edge Paul
  8. Thanks for the info. I am a newbie to the whole forum thing I have never posted anywhere before
  9. I tried to upload a foto but 192k is all I could reduce it to
  10. Hi everyone, Thanks to all you who welcomed me to the sickness. I have bee looking around the site to glean some repair info on my pm1.5 I tested some of the voltages according to some pictures on les's post about m1.5 recapping and they are not close to spec and two test points have no voltage at all. I started to take the caps out and see that it looks like they have been replaced at some time. my question is could they have gone bad again or is there another problem. when you power up the amp the protection light is on, the left meter is pegged there is a clicking noise that sounds like it is coming from the transformer, and both speakers make a erratic popping noise. If any one has a suggestion I would be thankful. I am not electronically inclined but I am also not afraid to give it a try. Anybody close to Michigan that would repair it if I cannot find the problem
  11. It all started with some free time and nothing to do. Next thing you know Carver pops into my head while I am on Ebay and well you know the rest of the story. Took a chance on a hr 752 "for parts only" and when it showed up it was like new without a scratch and works perfectly. O K now I'm hooked. My next purchase I did not get that lucky. Bought a pm1.5 "for parts only" hoping it was only the broken fuse holder. replaced fuse holder powered it up and there is a clicking sound. protection light is on and left meter light is flashing at top of scale. it sounds like the clicking is coming from the transformer. I am pretty good with electricity I only have a small knowledge about electronics. I looked at some of the m1.5 posts and did some basic testing. appears there is output from the transformer but that is where it stops. very little if any power to the test points listed by Les. No power to large caps. no power to fan. If any one has any ideas or can point me in the right direction I would be thankful. This is my first post I am looking to acquire some more amazing Carver equipment. This is my first post and I look forward meeting some like mined people
