  1. Hi Andrew,

Thanks for all the information. I am comparing all the amps in a 2-channel configuration for the sake of comparison. As I said before the AV806x sounded obviously better. I think even a non stereo oriented person would be able to tell the difference as it is big.

The TFM-45 I have was recently refreshed and upgraded by High Tech Audio and was my reference amp till the 806x came along.

I  have a 7.2.4 system soon to be 9.2.4. Using TFM-45 for fronts (the way things are going to be replaced by 806x), TFM22 for center, AV705x for side and surround and 2x 0.5T (soon to be replaced due to actual units buzzing loundly, not speakers). I bought the AV806x to replace the 2x 0.5T. I never thought I would ever replace the TFM-45 with anything none the less the AV806x.

My speaker are KEF Q900 front, Q650 Center, Q500 Side+Rear, Q150 Atmos. Subwoofer ELAC S12 (avoid this product)

  2. Hi All,

I am writing this in a state of shock. Recently I bought a AV806x from eBay to run surround and atmos speakers. I decided to test it on my main speakers and I was blown away from the sound stage, stereo imaging and bass it provided. My main speakers are usually run by a TFM-45 that has been updated and upgraded. The biggest difference is in imaging. In stereo listening when something is meant to be in the center with the AV806x it is in the center hard. With the TFM-45 it is soft center. In stereo with the AV806x I had to make sure my center speaker was not playing. With the TFM-45 it is obvious the center channel is not on. I should also say that I have an 705x that I compared to the TFM-45 and the TFM-45 blew the 705x away.

So,  what am I experiencing. Is the 806x just technically a newer amp with newer technology or better tech? Is my TFM-45 broken? Any thoughts or idea would be great as I am about to rethink my stereo life after hearing the 806x.

  3. Hi All,

Interested in any knowledge anyone has of the AV705x as far as design, sound, history and build quality. I have a beat up one that needs some repair and it sounds very neutral (too neutral) and not very special. I am comparing it to the TFM series amps. I don't think Bob had much if anything to do with this amp in design.
