  6. It seems to me the better subs just have gobs of power, whats the difference between the polk $120 ten inch and the $550 ten inch sub, about 1100 watts, maybe a better driver? I dont know.. is all that cash going into the amp. Are the part express sub kits any good, If a had a spare amp mono block at say 500 watts could I build something good? Just ideas..
  7. Thanks for that post, I am restoring my gear for the first time. It's twenty five years old now. I am very nervous about my speakers, there on there way back now. I hope they sound good. I am so used to the 360 thing I don't know if I would be happy with anything else. I want to recap my amps also. It's been at least five or more years since I used my system. I started to get into it again and realized it was not sounding right. I learned I had a few things to take care of first were the speakers from two pair I went from 4 drivers to 3 to 2 and two weeks ago one. So I am hopeing to save them by reconing . Then I found this site and a few others and realized My old system was quite valuable and it was time to give it some TLC. I also learned much about carver gear , recapping, mods, ect and now I have a bad case of OCCD ! And it's the fault of everyone here... I am waiting for two M200t's to show up, they will be for the HT but first they will be my trial run of recapping. If it goes well I want to do my twin M400t's. I am learning a hell of a lot thanks to you guys and one day hope to really know how to work on these things. I have been looking at scopes on ebay, not that I would know what to buy, I'm an RF guy, kinda.. BTW that woman wrote back about finding me some 750uf 50v caps and said: I am going to give you a company that I think has your parts They are a distributor as me yet they can be pricy so try your best to Hold them down and don't act too eager with them for I would do it for you but by the time I bring them in and out and charge a mark up I don't think You'd want to pay the price I'd have to charge They are in Vermont and the Company name is Basic E parts and ask for sales dept. # 1-802-425-5800 ok..... I hope this helps you and let me know if they help you too. linda Wow , She was something else last night, when I told these caps did not exist she took that on as a challenge ! Oh well enough for now..
  8. I'll check them out, Good point, not a good time to shop, I'll wait until after the holidays. I may end up with a spare amp so thats why I am asking..
  9. Can anyone point me in the right direction for non powered sub's , I have a Polk 10 inch and it does Ok but when I looked to see what the amp was I learned it was only 100 watts, that did not seem like a lot. And I do need an excuse to look for another amp..hehe really which is the better way to go? and is two better than one..
  10. Guys , If I can get them to sound as good as they did years ago I'll be happy..It's starting to get expensive, I spent $60 on caps for my speakers today, Just bought two Carver amps, want to recap them. I have two M400t's I want to recap also. I have a C-2 I would like to recap, if thats worth wile? Reconeing two pair of speakers , I feel like there in for open heart surgey and wont survive, I'll die without them.... To boot I have my eye on this.. Maybe, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/284817-REG/ART_HQ_231_HQ231_Dual_Channel_31_Band.html I would also like a CT-7 since I just discovered them, even if its MIJ...
  11. Wow, there is a lot more to this then I ever knew, I'm still trying to figure out how these coils work. All that magnet wire, are all speakers like this.. I also guess that amp power measured in watts dose not mean a whole lot, more like small medium and large amp makes more sense..lol Btw One of these were recommended for the 4.7uf..
  12. I asked him about that, I told him I had two pairs about three years apart and was wondering why the two had the different cap's. He did not know for sure but speculated that they must have wanted to change the sound of the speaker at some point. The walsh 2 was in production for many years. I asked which he would use and he said he would pick something in the middle like a 4.3uf.. However I have not looked for one. BTW The caps at parts ex are not listed as to who makes them. I was told about Bennic caps today so I looked at them also, any opinions I'm all ears.. Also is there a best way to combine caps? Three 250 to get 750 instead of a 500 and a 250? inquiring minds want to know..
  13. Yep, that's what I am going to do.....
