replyme 0 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi there, Hope someone can help me out here as I have a sub and satellite system that I am not too sure how to set up. I just got hold of a Carver Knight Shadow powered sub which I intend to hook up with two passive satellite speakers using an Emotiva mini X100a integrated amp. Usually with my other subwoofers, I would normally run the speaker wires from the integrated amp and to the sub speaker IN connectors and then another set of speaker cables from the sub speaker OUT to the satellites. However in this present situation the Carver subwoofer RCA inputs and outputs. The sub has two sets of regular speaker connectors but they are labeled as inputs. There are no speaker outputs. I am not sure how to connect my sattelites with this particular sub. I would really appreciate any help I can get.

If your satellites can't handle deep bass, run your signal source (CD/DVD player, etc.) into the RCA line level inputs of the sub, then run the sub's RCA outputs to the input of your amp. You'll have to control the overall volume with the source, however. 2. If your satellites can handle low bass, run from the loop outputs of your amp to the inputs of the sub. Since both the satellites and the sub might be trying to reproduce some of the same frequencies, they might not integrate as well. A separate preamplifier would be handy here, since your Emotiva doesn't have a tape/processor loop. Kept in mind the rather mild crossover of the Knight Shadow: fixed at 70Hz, and only 6dB per octave. You might end up sending too much deep bass to those satellites and they could be damaged if they weren't meant to take it. Hope that helps! 1
