  1. Thanks for all of the input guys. I sure have learned a whole lot. I have some more questions once I absorb what has been presented to me.
  2. Hey guys, Considering switching from iPhone to Android. When using Google Play, you can upload your current music Google Music Manager, and download it to your new phone if you like.. Easy enough. All of my music on my iPhone is purchased from iTunes and is in .m4a format. Google music manager converts it to .mp3 format. I messed around with it a little, and for example, a song that is uploaded that originally had 262 KBPS in .m4a format now 'has' 256 KBPS in .mp3 format, so virtually the same. So my question is, should the sound quality be the same as long as the KBPS is the same (or very close), or could there be other factors that could possibly reduce the sound quality after converting to .mp3? Thanks Travis
  3. I heard the stories throughout my childhood...my father baking powdercoated parts in his (ex) wife's kitchen stove, the small engine builds in the living room...all of our RC work that happened at the kitchen table... I've done my fair share of that. Most true 'gearheads' have. Us audio freaks do it too....Eric Crossman and I did our fare share of woodwork inside the house when it seemed to make sense to. Audio equipment looked in place to us when sometimes it realistically had no place being wherever it was. So, take us to this AM. The dishwasher drain backs up bad. Well, finally pinpointed it. Opened it, terrible smell. I NEVER use it, so why not remove it rather than repair? OK... A quick visual scan and verification via a yardstick ensured it fit... It's good for a laugh. Honestly, the point is, as much as things might suck sometimes (I've been under the house twice, had all the windows open due to terrible odor, etc) always try to find a reason to laugh about whatever situation you might find yourself in!
  4. Build a box for it. DB Drive 21". It moves some air! \
  5. Don't laugh guys.....but I'm assuming the 4.2's are quite an upgrade vs my Mach's (sound quality)? Eyeing some on CL now. Not concerned too much about bass as the Stroker handles that.
  6. Other than the Stroker (see below), I'm running a M400T Cube and 6 Realistic Mach Ones (the older 4024s). Recapped and what not. I grew up dreaming about the Mach Ones, mostly why I have these. I'm ready to step up the sound quality. Any suggestions guys? The Cube is a perfect match running 3 Machs on each side at 2.66ohms. The Cube seems to really shine when it's loaded to 4ohms-2.66ohm (never tried 2ohm) per channel. I would like to keep the Cube, so if something out there was 4 ohms it would be a plus. Any ideas guys? Would not like to sacrifice much volume but definitely increase SQ. Prob asking too much! -Travis
  7. Thanks for all of the kind words! Here are my amps, preamp and mixer. TFM-24 that I have had since 1996/age 16, that is running the Stroker. CT27 preamp, M400T Cube with recent recap, and a cheezy mixer. The mixer is being used to be able to control the level of the Stroker. The other item is a Harrison Labs X-Connect. It's an adjustable attenuator. One channel of my TFM-24 is a tiny bit stronger that the other one, so this allows me to adjust the input signal to match them up.
  8. Thanks guys. No plans for cabinet yet. The port is an Aeroport, flared on inside too.
  9. What's up guys? Long story short, in my teens (20 years ago), I was into car audio as much or more than home audio. In high school, I dreamed of owning a Cerwin Vega Stroker. Way too expensive for me at that time ($1000+).. Fast forward 12 years (2008), a few BNIB ones were on Ebay. I ordered a 12" for a car install, but they sent me a 15 by accident. I kept it BNIB and told myself I would 'never' take it out of the plastic. It still sets like that. 2016-I'm back into home audio. Using my TFM-24 that I have had for 20 years, CT27 preamp, and a recently purchased M400T Cube that has been serviced (I won't mention the speakers, thats another story). I came across a BNIB Stroker 12 on CL, and decided to buy it and actually use it. Here is a pic. Built the box that CV spec'd, but tuned it to 38hz rather than 45. I can honestly say that this is the most efficient subwoofer that I have ever experienced in my life. With minimal input power (~75 watts indicated on the TFM24), it puts out a tremendous thunder. With ~200 watts indicated, the pictures and decorations are nearly falling off the walls. It's rated to 1000 RMS!
