  1. I would like to thank everyone for their input. The consciences is leaning towards the copper, which is what I was thinking as well, plus I have a new set of copper grills coming. That being said, the black does give a clean modern look, but my objective is vintage. AndrewJohn does have a point about the wife, fact is, she’s anaccomplished interior designer and my authority pretty much ends at the door whenit comes to decor. If I’ve learnedanything over the last 30 years, it’s to carefully pick and choose my battles. The old story of the organ grinder and themonkey and I’m the one carrying the cup…lol. That’s not to say I’ll be trying to influence the placement decision, making every effort to flank the fireplace with them. Good thing, it’s a room we don’t use much, bad thing, she’s the Organ Grinder. We’ll see how it goes but thanks to all and I’ll keep you posted. Well I’m off, I have a hot water heater to fix today, damn
  2. Received the single Quad purchased in Denver via FedEx today, it’s going to be a tough call to decide on the black or copper grills. I got a great deal on the speaker, it’s complete and working, less the legs, in good condition for a first run speaker SN 447 (1958). I have two NOS copper grills in route. The copper really has a vintage look to them, but the black is a moden look. What's your thoughts?. Quad ESL Serial Numbers
  3. Those look clean, first time i have seen a pair with the logo on the grill. After purchasing mine i found a private party selling a pair in southern California that were very clean, with new power boards for $1350. Good price for as clean as they were. I picked mine up for around $570 but shipping was high. If i did it again i would have taken the southern calif pair. I took a different direction, bought NOS copper grills, and will send the pannels and electronics off for ground up restoration. Thinking about having the wood trim reproduced in a premium wood e.i. Brazilian Rose, etc. simular to my Silverlines. There's not much to the trim. BTW I picked up a third single Quad 57 (4000 something SN early 1962) in Denver for $275, cheap. Looks to be in very good shape and in route now.
  4. They sounded fantastic at CF17 off Carver Sunfire amp I believe. (SEA) I was actually driving them with 45 watt QUAD 303 amp. I am now using a Carver TFM6B and it is working out fine. I was told by another source that the Quad 303 is a good match, and that this is a amp is a great value. There readily available and fairly cheap on eBay. I’m not certain that the 303 can be run Mono or bridge, anyone know? I was leaning towards the Quad II (an earlier tube model) is also recommended in this audiogon forum. Amp for Quad ESL 57
  5. Well guys, the Quads made it in today, Brooklyn, New York to Northern California via FedEx. Now the real challenge begins, convince the wife she doesn’t need that furniture where I would like to set these up (yes, flanking the fireplace). My plan is to pick up a vintage amp just to run the speakers separate from my primary two channel system, either a Quad II or Marantz 8B. Keep the whole theme vintage 1960. I am not sure the Carver gear is suited for Quad's, any thoughts? I will listen to them a bit and then the plan is to tear them down and send them off for restoration. I’ll have to decide on black or the copper grills, I picked up some NOS coppers in case I wanted to change them out. Now let’s see if these things are as good as the reviews.
  6. Damien Rice as well as Jeff Buckley both have very nice versions of this song, but you cannot deny credit to the master Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah, Great when you take it right to the end! Honorable Mentions:
  7. I just picked up another panel to have as parts, ect. Looks to be complete and in good shape and the tears they mention appear to be the dust covers not the Mylar. Vtg Quad ESL 57 Electrostatic Loudspeaker - For Parts or Repair Fortunately, my son lives in the Denver area and will pick it up for me. Interesting thing about this speaker is the date code. My reading of the SN 447 making the unit 1958 first year run of the Quad 57 Quad ESL Serial Numbers

    Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a Happy 2018 New Year! May the year bring all peace, prosperity, and good health Fireworks off the Sydney Harbor Bridge PS, For years I live in Sydney Australia, directly behind of the Ferris wheel in this photo, (left of bridge) facing the harbor, Sydney Harbor Bridge and Sydney Opera House. It was a wonderful time and the fireworks where incredible. It's nice to share and Happy New Years to all!
  9. Well I have had a hankering to buy a new set of speakers oflate and finally after considering many different makes and model, decided togo vintage with a pair of Quad ESL 57’s. Anticipating this purchase I picked up before Christmas , a pair of clean copper grills, while planning a total restoration. I will listen to them for a month or so and then send them off to be restored. I’ll post a photo of the actual speakers once received. The new grills
  10. Ok Dom thanks for that, I understand the solution (or work around). I have not opened a file in IrfanView but sure I can figure it out. Funny I don’t recall the image editor doing this in the past, but then again maybe I just got lucky and everything was shot was in landscape. If that’s the case I better go buy a lottery ticket…lol Thanks again, hopefully we will see an updated photo editor in the future. Will
  11. Thanks at least I know I’m not the only one, or just losing it. About 30 day back when it first started happing I spent ages reworking the photo in Corel or Photoshop resizing, formatting, flipping, saving, ect, ect and every one of those when uploaded is on its side.
  12. Does anyone have a solution to this photo upload problem? I have been having an issue uploading jpeg photos of late, a problem do not recall having in the past. Anytime I try to load a portrait layout the CL photo uploaded is turning the photo on its side (landscape). I can flip the photo every which way in the explorer folder and it still flips landscape when I upload. Anyone else having this problem and/or have a solution? Thanks PS; Attached is an example, I cannot get a photo taken in portrait to upload in portrait
  13. There are some things a SS amp does best. But it’s hard to beat a tube amp when listening to this. Comes alive!! (lol "beet" sorry those grow in the garden)
