  1. Hi there, thanks! I like MP's gear, good bang for the buck. The DAC is great. As for tubes, I am actually using 6N3P tubes, they are a Russian make. Very cheap, something like $1 per tube, and I actually prefer them to my GE 5670W black plate tubes! They're a bit more natural sounding and less muddy. I switched back to the GE's just to see, and sure enough I had to go back to the 6N3P's. I like them a lot. daddyf, how you describe Carver gear is my understanding of it as well. What comes in, comes out. They're very transparent, clean and clear, and are just damn musical! It's the ultimate sound for me and it's why I fell in love with them so readily. It's like oh, THIS is how music can sound! Brilliant! And here I am now getting myself knee deep into it. As for pictures, let me find some that I've got lying around on my PC. I'm sure I've got one here of my set-up from previous iterations of it. The big IMF's sure are sweet to look at.. just don't mind my small listening room Perry, yep, I am pretty crazy about this stuff! Haha. I love my audio - I sit down and listen to music every single day. It's very relaxing and it's a huge part of my life. Wouldn't have it any other way! I don't claim to be any sort of expert when it comes to audio gear, but I sure do love music. As for us Canucks, well you know what, up here with our igloos and whatnot there are only a select few of us who actually have electricity and the ability to enjoy a good stereo. So, when we find a place where there's a bunch of us, we pretty much stick to each other like magnets. Thanks for all the warm welcomes folks! I'll go hunting for a picture and put one up in the systems forum.
  2. Thank you for the warm welcomes! I am sure I will be right at home here - I am excited to start learning more about Bob Carver's gear and just in general speaking with like-minded people. I've heard many varying opinions about Carver's gear - some that don't like it at all, some that love it. The truth is it turns out to be personal preference and what you prefer to hear - I am like you guys and love the sound that comes out of this equipment, so that is why I am happy to be here. Blues Pwr, I live in Edmonton, Alberta. avguytx, yes there seems to be a wealth of information here! The C-1 I am getting is not having all of the possible upgrades done to it, just the basic ones for now, but eventually I will be tackling that myself and I think with the help of the fine folks here it will be a walk in the park. Zumbini, thanks, I am certain I will too. I love the clear, musical sound of Carver gear and hear that the C-1 is fantastic, and even more fantastic with the mods done to it. I am really looking forward to getting it - it will likely be in my hands in roughly two weeks time. For those that are curious, this is the system I will be running: Speakers: IMF Reference Standard Professional Monitor Mark IV Amplifier: Chassis Refurbished (by Roland Barr) Carver M1.5 Pre-amplifier: Refurbished and Bill D modded Carver C-1 Source: Musical Paradise MP-D1 TubeDAC hooked up to a Windows 7 PC with Foobar2000 My set-up is very simple, but sounds very very good. I can sit in my listening seat and control my entire music library using my iPhone, including controlling the volume. I never have to get up to switch a CD or a record and it sounds fabulous.
  3. Hello guys. I am new to this site, and also Carver gear. I had my first taste when I was over at a friends place and she was borrowing a Carver M1.5t and Carver C-4000 from a friend of hers and I had a chance to listen to it. I instantly fell in love with the sound, and knew this is what I wanted. So, now I have a chassis refurbished M1.5 and also I have a refurbished and Bill D modded Carver C-1 on the way. I'm hoping the C-1 with the new caps and mod will make it sound even better than the unrestored C-4000 I heard, not that I wasn't happy with that sound but you could always use a little more. Anyway, just thought I'd say hello and perhaps you will be seeing more of me around here in the future. I'll be sure to put up a shot of my system once the C-1 is in place. Jeffrey
