  1. Sorry for the sarcasm what I meant was they were testing different preamps which of course they probably were.

I wouldn't doubt amir's test equipment because not everything fails his test like it would if his equipment was bad.

To say it has to be good because so and so designed it is idol worship.

Also they have had three years to submit a properly functioning unit which they haven't.

And I will reiterate that I wouldn't trust a magazine reviewer who takes advertising money. I'm calling snake oil.

  2. It's almost like they were testing two different pieces of equipment lol

    The channels don't even match.

I don't believe a magazine would ever give a bad review to someone they take advertising money from. That's why we have consumer reports.

I've tried to "not like" Amir but I just can't do it LOL

Maybe he should just put tube sound amplifiers in a separate category since 0 distortion is not the goal. Distortion just means the signal has changed, it doesn't indicate whether it's for better or for worse as that is objective, however I'm sure most would agree that second or third order harmonics sound better than the power supply.

I made an amplifier switch and did some AB testing of this Yamaha (200 wpc) against my TFM 22 (225 wpc) that has 250 times more distortion. The difference was too small for me or another listener to have a preference. I had it set up to where you could hear the same clip repeatedly through the same speakers and switch back and forth instantly.

Why these deep structural differences on different products at the same period of time?

    Good question.

I think it is to allow a vertical path for the cooling air to flow over the power transistors.

One with dedicated heat sinks and the other design without.

The fan was not in the original design but added for the pro model I believe.

I would suggest that an 8 ohm resistor running sine waves, and an 8 ohm speaker running music are not the same.

I would rather listen to the design for dealing with dynamic speaker loads, than a steady resistor, 9 times out of 10.

Are you familiar with this company?

    https://www.audiograph.se

Swedish company AudioGraph, the home of the PowerCube, continues to develop measurement tools for the audio industry. AudioGraph created the de-facto business standard 3-D measurement graphs – easy-to-read yet very powerful

I'm surprised this wasn't done a long time ago.

Prong on top came from industrial installations with metal receptacle covers.

Should the cover plate screw vibrate out causing the metal plate to fall and guillotine the prongs of an electrical cord, a prong down install would be catastrophic, whereas a prong up installation would be of no significance.

In residential applications with decorative stainless, copper, bronze, ect. duplex receptacle covers the receptacles should be inverted to prong up orientation.

That's an interesting tidbit, I was thinking of getting some brushed stainless outlet covers. The problem I have with an upside down outlet is  that molded plugs with a right angle point the wire up instead of down and may fall out easier.

I think what people here are referring to is the third pin on the IEC receptacle mounted on the amplifier. Apparently some are mounted up and some are mounted down and this would switch the polarity of the other two pins as presented to the person wiring the chassis.

I've never seen one but from looking at the pictures I get the impression that a two prong IEC receptacle would be compatible with either a two or three conductor cord.

Whereas the reverse would not be possible.

specifically states in the owner's manual not to use a cheater plug, make sure to plug it into a 3 prong outlet for safety reasons.

No doubt this type of boilerplate was just copy pasta from another owner's manual. It's very common to find errors in owner's manuals.  After a few too many complaints I was rewarded with the final proofread of all the manuals at a company I worked for.

As long as the amplifier doesn't fall in the bathtub (without a GFCI) I'm sure they are fine.

The last time I checked there still hadn't been a safety notice/recall on the pinto or mustang fuel tank debacle. I'll be damned if I ever trust that company. Lucky dear old dad wasn't taken out by that thick film ignition module in his T-Bird.
