Audio Science. What is the definition? Back up to reality. The science doesn't end at the test bench resistors, that's where it begins.

Definition: Auditory science or hearing science is a field of research and education concerning the perception of sounds by humans, animals, or machines. It is a heavily interdisciplinary field at the crossroad between acoustics, neuroscience, and psychology.[1] It is often related to one or many of these other fields: psychophysics, psychoacoustics, audiology, physiology, otorhinolaryngology, speech science, automatic speech recognition, music psychology, linguistics, and psycholinguistics.

In this video Nelson Pass talks about the ear brain interface. Bob Carver takes his science all the way to the brain as the great designers do.

Will the greats self limit themselves and the real audio science to chase the erroneous priorities of a software designer with an analyzer (ASR) that claims SINAD further below audibility is "state of the art audio science"? Of course not. Recommending or discouraging purchases based on a simplistic erroneous definition of audio science is not of help to the customer. Criticizing the great designers and ranking their products as not state of the art audio science and not recommended, is as misleading to the customers as the companies selling products with no basis in science at all, IMHO.. Carver, Curl, Pass, King, Rowland have all been unfairly criticized on the same site by others that are not their equal.

Most audiophiles are smart and realize that audio science doesn't end at the test bench load resistor and understand the complexity of real audio science as it is properly defined.

Question anyone using science in their title, that when ask about the scientific control of their test samples says, "I just test what people send me."  That is flawed science from the start and has no basis for recommending or discouraging peoples audio purchase. Like Steve and Herb mention in the video and Bob said to me, "this is someone trying to make a name for themselves by taking shots at others."

Analyzers are wonderful objective tools of the designer. The resolution of these tools has vastly improved over time.

In the forums and YouTube Bob Carver videos, there's talk of the ear-brain interface. What's that about and don't all companies do this?"

If they do, they are unknown to us and likely to be accidental. Dr. Carver has a background in physiology, as well as electronic design and engineering and his doctorate is in physics. He developed monoclonal antibodies to fight cancer and infections and established a facility to manufacture the antibodies as well.

Every product we make takes the ear-brain interface into consideration. For example, without providing proprietary details, Bob's research is consistent with that of Frank McIntosh, Stu Hegeman, the BBC, the Crown Corporation and Seigfried Linkwitz despite minor differences in application, but Bob has made more products following those precepts than all other companies combined. The goal is the reduction of listener fatigue, imprecise imaging and a small tight soundstage lacking envelopment, depth and openness. All our amplifiers use this technology as did the loudspeakers he's manufactured in the past.
