They look like a knock-off of the Cinema Ribbon and no doubt use Bob's ribbon design now distributed to Dayton, but I can't seem to find anything about them.  In the auction description they even use "Sonic Holography" and "High Back-emf design."  Seems kinda fishy to me.

The seller also has a used pair of CRM-2's for sale.  Compare the detailed descriptions of both auctions.

I think you are absolutely correct about these being Sunfire knock-offs. It seems he used a pair for his model and is now selling them as well as the results and the bootleg with identical ad copy. Can you say copyright infringement?

Now my question is about the integrated Sonic Hologram these speakers claim to offer. How would that interact with the sonic hologram generator in most of our preamps?

The SH claim is pure BS. Holography is electronically induced upstream from the amp stage, not at the speaker. Sure, Polk does their version at the speaker but that requires cabling between the speakers and their ain't no such option here. More likely is they guy simply copied the Sunfire text and doesn't really know what SH is.

I also like how he went to the trophy supply shop to make his nameplates. It would be interesting to hear them but not for $625.

The Dayton ribbon IS Bob's ribbon.  Bob made a deal with the manufacturer of the ribbon:  they paid the tooling costs to go into production for Sunfire for 2 years at which time they could produce and distribute them on their own.  The deal saved Bob and Sunfire something like $40k in start-up costs.

This guy is Brian Purdy, a long time employee of Bob's. He worked for him at the Carver plant and evidently Bob has taken him under his wing and shown him alot about restoring old tube amplifiers. He has listed several for sale on ebay with Bob's blessing or at least he aknowledged Bob helped him with them. They resembled Bob's current amps the cherry 30 watts.. These are indeed his version of the crm-2's. Whether Bob had a hand in this is not known.

I dunno - this could actually be a plug for Bob's SH:

"Integrated with Sonic Hologram Imaging, this loudspeaker corrects the flaws in CDs and DVDs for smooth and trouble-free sound output."

You could be right about that, Rod.

Wayne, good info there. These would indeed appear to be general copies of the CRM-2's at least made by someone likely to have some inside knowledge. It also explains why I couldn't find any info on them.

I have spoken with Brian and bought stuff from him. He lives near the old plant out in Washington and still works with Bob at the repair facility I think. I believe the woofers are different in his version of the CRM-2's if my memory is working this early...

so those are infact from bob's. he is a very generous guy i tell you. there are a few of them floating around. if i find a photo or two i will post them. there is also a silver face version that a friend has as well. the 625 is a steal as they sound very, very close to the crm2. brian is at the moment working with bob on some of the ebay stuff and what not. they are proto's in that the production used a grill for damping purposes as well as a different driver, the sh bob speaks of is the inner aral time delay the speakers have like your ears from center to center, woofer to woofer. bob would easily explian this as he had done at least a dozen times in my presence, not bullshit i say, bob invented it, so who better to say what it is or is not.  it is infact a sh in a basic form. it is how the speakers make this large acoustic space, then when you multiply by 10 or so, you get the new amazing speakers which throw conventional wisdom out the door as they do what no other speakers have been able to do so far, that i have witnessed myself. huge space, pinpoint image in 3d presentation . and they are as true large signal tranducer. 2kw without breaking a sweat at the 121db mark. bob spent almost a decade making those crm2's. they are a remarkable speaker indeed. i saw the start to finish project folder at his lab while there.  how can some bash just because they don't understand the science is short sighted. hope that helps.
