  1. Seen Eric Clapton Saturday night here at the Hollywood bowl and he played fantastic. At 79 and still doing well and figured I better go and appreciate one of the legends of the music industry before he stops playing. Former Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker had already left us in 2014/19 but we still have their incredible music that will live on,…
  2. No , mount the big resistors on the back side not the caps.
  3. Davidc Your best bet is mount the cartridge and set the proper tracking weight and see whether it will collaspse to the body. If it doesn’t then playing it will very quickly tell you if it’s good to go I have a lot of old low output moving coils and most used silicone suspension and most are still aok I did have this V15 MM model but didn’t remember the suspension composition BTW- consider the tip profile made back then more than likely superior to what is made today since that was the pinnacle of the cartridge making era
  4. These cheaper and smaller volume controls usually have poor channel to channel tracking due to the smaller carbon track and smaller wipers in comparison to the bigger blue Alps pots. If you have the room for it I would replace it like Rob has done You can also carefully bend the tabs back and take it apart for inspection and sometimes they just go bad since these have the highest mechanical wear in the entire electronic food chain
  5. That is a problem for many sealed pots. Simply no way to get to the tracks to clean them. This PSE studio 1 had 3 expensive noble cast aluminum pots ,2 in the tone control circuit plus volume The balance control had a open area on the side for access but in most cases you have to unsolder many pots and take them apart and open them up to do it properly
  6. Been a lurking around for awhile and there is an abundance of knowledge surrounding the unique talents of Bob Carver and a site bringing all this out to share, just amazing really ! The only piece I have is a Sunfire 300/2 that drives very low impedance speakers and has done this remarkably well for a few years. I appreciate those who have deep dived into the circuits like WRF and Nahash5150 who I have spoken with on getting mine back in order, but it looks like a 4 month wait so I will be attempting the work on restoring mine for the time being. I have built quite a few class A amps over the years and rebuilt some AB amps and tube preamps along the way for the pleasure of diy so the TDC principle of efficiency and big power is ever so appealing ! Nothing beats a site that focuses only on Bob Carver designed equipment , just fantastic stuff ! Sincerely David
