  1. AC/DC in HD off qobuz, Gustard r26 to RAM 285->tekton double impact SE+2x10subs.. (maggie fuses got delayed to Monday) Very enjoyable while doing chores around the house…. The vibrating house helps with the cleaning.
  2. Fall off not to my liking. https://www.homedepot.com/p/NewAge-Products-3-ft-Solid-Surface-Countertop-in-Black-Galaxy-Granite-89106/315511240#overlay need 3 of em, but they are 76 pounds each.. Thats pushing it for me to move around. Could always put on a second layer too.. with another layer of cork or rubber between.. but that might be just a little overkill. And I like the black. 🙂 But it is a total of >2x what I thought I would pay.. sigh.. 15 years ago, when I bought pieces to do an above garage apartment, stuff was alot less expensive.. But at 225+ pounds, that top should be a sufficient base for the RAM285 and the Silver Sevens
  3. Had two “holy grails” /white elephants. Silver Sevens and those Line source speakers. Got one, but now will need wait until I have some more cash to burn to seriously go looking for the other..
  4. Bob Carver Line Source… I have 10’ ceilings.. and the money to buy them. 😉
  5. Just a thought… I have 8ohm and 4 ohm speakers. An A/B switch would be cool. A=8ohm outs and B=4ohm outs. Autoselect the feedback with switch position.
  6. Later last night, I relaxed with some HD AC/DC before bed. (About 80db at my seat) Very enjoyable. This is full range to the tektons with the 2 subs getting signal from the 285 sub outs. i imagine it would be better if I high passed the amp, used the sub outs at the eq and adjusted the subs to 110 or so.(for high spl), easy switch..I’ll try that this evening. That was straight from DAC. Did not adjust any settings on it from SS use, so some play time there in my future. 4000t is supposed to be here tomorrow..
  7. A little better…. Sounds good. Gets a little distortion at really high volume. Found I cannot use the maggies yet.. I cannot find the fuses I ordered so.. ordered some more.. Maybe this weekend.. d4710136-47ff-4f75-bfa5-92d438af29bb.mp4
  8. Ok, so I submitted a question on their website asking if they had any relevant prior testing they could reveal or advise for isolating tube amps in the presence of high spl audio. Will report any reply. by the way, RAM285 just showed up.. got to eat dinner first though.
  9. Sounding good at very high spl and being able to “adjust” the sound to my liking.. never cared much for what the “purists” say.. I like my music the way I want to hear it. Speakers always the limiting factor for me with secondary being source material that starts sounding terrible at higher volumes.. I detest delta sigma dacs… too much added “brightness”. But they measure sooo good!! Tons of power available with Carver and speaker protection circuits saved me more than a few times… Only put amps without protection circuit on the 901s .. rated IIRC “unlimited power in non commercial use”.. 🙂. Eq’d and frequency limited to mids and highs, (multi-amp, xovers and never without the 901 eqs) don’t blow or distort with good source material. I have blown and/or heard egregious distortion from speakers costing 2-5x as much, usually the tweeters just get too hot and burn away. Looking at you Martin Logan Motion 60xt.. in other words.. I only care about what I hear, that meets my desires, at a price point I can afford for equipment that has proven record of lasting decades.
  10. Is rubber better than cork? I went with cork based on some article I read, but can’t find it now.. smh.. getting old..
  11. So is this a major improvement over SH in say a 4000t or an incremental refinement or the same end result on newer hardware?
  12. If I ever have the cash in the future, I may upgrade the Double Impacts.. but now I am done spending money on equipment for awhile.. I still have a bunch of Carver gear, almost all refurbed by Hitech or Nelion then tested and enjoyed for limited periods when I had time then boxed up and stored in a controlled environment. I don’t even remember all of the pieces now, but I do still have 3 pieces I need to get refurbed at some point.. CT-19, 390t and a 760x. Just from memory: 1.5t x 4 1.0t x 2 tfm-42 tfm-55 X2 i think I have a couple more amps also.. just cannot remember the models. out on loan to nephew is a hr-875 and a non-tube 5 disc carousel cd (cannot remember model#) And my original two Pieces, the Carver Receiver (130w) and a dtl-200 circa 1987. plus what I have and will shortly have here in Reno, the 490t, Silver 7-900, the 7ts, RAM285 and 4000t. nope, don’t get involved in repairing Carver, but many years of experience with SS stuff. Looking forward to experiencing all that tube glory 😉 next time I visit Oregon, maybe I will lay everything out and post some pictures.
  13. Tekton Double Impact SE Tekton 2x10 subs (2 of them) magnepan 1.7i When everything is hooked up. 490t Gustard r26 ladder dac 4000t external processor loop to eq. 4000t output A to sublime audio xover to tekton amps. Two sub outs.. 4000t output B to Maggies. RAM285 (tekton biamp mid-high) Silver 7t (tekton woofers) Silver 7 900, Magnepan, 100hz high pass to amps. 300 watts on each powered 2x10 sub LOUD.. 🙂. When I want to.. with either tektons, maggies or both pairs. Many options for dialing in how I want to hear on any given day.. not just hearing microphonics, a little concerned damaging hot tubes with vibrations.. the marble or quarts will sit on top of cork cushions themselves on top of a thick wood shelf, on top of a sturdy cabinet base.. and the devices themselves have their own feet.. I want to have an 8-9 foot long area.. 7-900 power on outside, then 7-900 tubes, then 7ts, then 285 in center. 4000t, 490t and dac sit on shelf underneath. Unless I stick the amp in back room, then 4000t, dac and cd will be on an audio platform in main room and wites running back to amps, then speaker runs.. none more than 12 feet.. just to be clear, this is purpose built for 2 channel audio. The home theater system is an entirely different (and waaaaay less expensive) setup.. I just don’t watch movies or tv that much. So the surround probably not much of an issue.. though I might try it for concert hall effect sometime in the future.
  14. Well, will be able to see / hear next weekend, I hope. At least initially, will set direct to maggie 1.7i. should have both the RAM285 and a thoroughly rebuilt 4000t from Nelion arriving this week. Might be another couple of weeks until I can get the whole system set up. Still need to obtain some marble or heavy quartz for setting the amps on. Christmas downtime project probably.. Anyone have any good ideas, other than setting the amps up in adjacent room, to protect tubes from..high intensity sound waves? I can run longer, heavier gauge speaker wire rather than having the tubes shaken like a james bond cocktail..
  15. If “straight line” with fewest parts between source and speaker is supposed to be better, why all the circuitry and doodahs in a pre-amp? Just a gain, impedance match and call it the “best ever made”? (Would probably measure really well) Don’t forget your unobtainium power cord sheathed with magicanium maybe aSignal Projects Golden Sequence ($4,675 USD), Furutech Lineflux and Speakerflux (from $2,650 and $3,650 USD pr) and a who can go without a couple of Skogrand Beethoven USB ($11,000 USD) for that vintage mp3 player.
  16. For me the question is not about “cleaning” AC power, it is protecting amplifiers, especially the silver seven 900, from the vagaries of rural 240v, single phase power so I don’t have them damaged.
  17. The 85 watt amp made 125 watts at .3% distortion... Wonder how far I could push those without blowing a fuse on maggie 1.7.. soft clipping, higher voltages.. trade off to measured distortion, but at what point does that become audible? Wonder what wattage could be pushed if willing to accept a little audible distortion.. what is the absolute output wattage? The solid state a760x clips hard so probably blowing fuses due to that.. Speaking of clipping… If an amp creates high frequency artefacts at clipping which heats up and “blows” the tweeter, would adding a low pass > 22khz filter to the mid/highs amp (bi amped) can that mitigate tweeter damage when amp clips?
  18. Put in a dedicated 20 amp circuit (or 3-4) in with their own nice wall switch… 2 amplifiers per circuit. ?? Dang.. would need a new panel… Never mind…..
  19. Or cannot decide… I like alot of his covers, though some are just made satirically.. and funny as heck..
