Orphans United! Two true stories by KVE777.

Yet another chapter of Life and Times of HiFi in South Jersey!

I picked up a Celestion 5 in black, about three years ago, and just put it to the side, thinking someday I'll take apart a bunch of speakers for eBay, selling drivers and crossovers, as a single speaker rarely sells for much.
Yesterday I was at the Goodwill store near work and found an identical match! $4.99. I looked around a bit for it's mate, but none seemed to be there. At the time, I thought it looked familiar, but what are the chances?
First thing I did when I got home was dig a little, sure enough, it was the same! That just doesn't happen everyday!
Last summer, BillWojo gave me a single KLH SIX, a couple of weeks later while at the local flea market I saw another SIX, but it was painted black and the bottom was peeling off(displayed upside-down?)! When I inquired as to the price, the little old lady said $25.00, but I have to take both, as they are too heavy for her to liftI got the pair for a twenty dollar bill. That's kind of the same 'orphan uniting', because the black painted one was so rough.
All three SIX's work fine, BTW. I have to test the new Celestion. I hope it works! Parts are not easy, especially the tweeters. I'll go back today and look for more. They don't all make it to the floor together. Supposedly the 5's are a damn good sounding speaker. The SIX's are legendary, sounding better to me than Original Advent Loudspeakers.

Anybody else have a good orphan story?

What are the odds? Thanks for sharing bro.. The story you are telling is a karma story.. It all comes around. Even the help or price break that you may give to someone like Steven, who is recovering from surgery. You may consider the help small or no big deal, but its pretty cool when it comes back around, for no apparent reason! Seen it a lot in my life.. No surprise when good things happen to you Kevin, its the good coming back to you. Best part is, your old and set in your ways.happy0009.gif

Ok, I got one. Its a karma story but its funny. By the way, I am just an observer about the karma thing. I know its real but have no explanations or real understanding of it, any more than you do, probably less. This guy named Tony who worked at my shop several years ago as a Tool Maker, was at a wedding in a church. He was a bit hungry and noticed that in the church refrigerator there was a snickers candy bar.. He thought, "I'd sure like to eat that damn thing, but no, I can't steal it, especially in a church". So he has his own little battle going on between good and evil in his head.. Finally evil wins out and he says Phuck it! He grabs the candy bar and rips open the paper, takes a big bite, and hears a crack noise. As he pulls back the candy bar from his mouth, one of his front teeth is still imbedded in the snickers bar! Standing there with his broken smile, looking like a jack o lantern says " damn it, I knew I should not have taken the candy bar"!! Cost him $600.00 to fix his tooth.happy0009.gifeusa_think.gif Instant Karma..
