a short introduction. Hello to all, my name is Marty but I go by the mad Czech. My awesome friend and brother in arms "the Jigster " gave me that moniker back in the 80's. We have enjoyed music and Hifi equipment conversation every since we meet. Jig is a huge Caver enthusiast and has turned me into one as well. Im retired and have gotten back into collecting vinyl, i love collecting and listening to my albums. I recently picked up the hobby of collecting vintage Hifi stereo  equipment and speakers. Im teaching myself how to repair and update the pieces of equipment I've acquired. I know enough to be dangerous, i can read a  schematic and can replace basic components. When it comes to making adjustments that i cant do, i don't own an  osyloscope, but i do have a nice multimeter and a few otherpiecesoftestequipment. I started with updating and or replacing speaker crossovers. So now I'm moving on to rebuilding receivers. I have a Yamaha CR-840, Fisher RS-2015. I recently purchased a Phase linear 1000 S/N 9841. From everything I've read it needs to be rebuilt. I cleaned it and used Deoxit for all switches and pots but that is  as far as I've gone. I will need to find someone to do a complete rebuild due to that being over my head. Im asking for thoughts on if its worth the cost to completely rebuild or to just have the parts that are out of spec replaced? Or should I just purchase one that has been updated and in specification? I really want to add a PL1000 to my system and enjoy its benefits of noise free vinyl and the sooner the better. Thank you for letting me participate on this site. I look forward to hearing from members regarding the PL1000.

Welcome from Virginia!  Enjoy your stay!

The Phase Linear 1000 Autocorrelator is going to be roughly near $150 - $250.  Pristine and rebuilt (with wood case), maybe $350?  That's a guess on my part for the upper end.  Have not seen too many near that high end.  Maybe other with more knowledge on this exact piece will chime in and provide better info.

Welcome to the Carver Site!!

Is this the model you have?

I would only do a complete restoration no matter the model.

That is what I did for my Series Two version as represented below.

The plan then was an upgrade of the turntable and a MC cartridge along with a SUT and tube phono preamp.

As an estimation, plan on spending $450.00 (an estimate only) for the restoration services plus shipping both directions. An all in price might be in the $850.00 to $900.00 range depending on the shipping cost from your location to either Michigan or Washington state.

Washington State

I use it in the signal path for my TT and cassette tape deck.

The results of your playback using the PL 1000 can depend on the amount of compression that was used in production. You can read more about this in the user manual along with other related items.

Most of my records are new and any of my existing older versions got the Spin-Clean Record Washer treatment prior to their first use on the new system and put in a high-quality protective sleeve.

The frequency of cleaning depends on whether they look or sound dirty.

Older picture, but its at the lower right mounting position.
