xavionics 2,069 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I just had to share this experience I had today with you all... A coworker recently picked up a pair of 1973 KLH Model 5 speakers. 12" woofer, 2 mids and one cone tweeter. Cosmetically in real nice shape. Adjustment switches for mid and tweet output (low, norm, high for each). We selected Dayton's Audio Caps to keep costs down. With 7 caps per crossover and new/better posts, the total was around $100.00. It took a few hours to get the caps all mounted and hooked up. All the old caps were out of spec by at least 20%. I wasn't expecting to be impressed by 40+ year old speakers with all paper cones, but I was quite surprised! Connected them to my M-1.0t and handed him the Sonos control. Very nice! Way more bottom than I would have guessed. Clean mids, highs were there and not over bearing. We experimented with the mid and tweet controls, but ended up leaving them in the 'norm' position. With the recap, he has about $350 into the pair. Sweet deal!

xavionics 2,069 Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Sorry it took so long guys.... I see this was before the last wire was connected from the midrange contour switch on the left crossover.
