RichP714 3,163 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Nice sonotube subs. I have the drivers (2 15" dayton titanic III's) to build a couple, but mine are going to be a mix between sonotube and acoustic cannon, they'll be U shaped and a bit over 18 ft of tube (15-45Hz resp). Bet they sound nice
BillD 239 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 How are you going to have those subs "catch up" with the rest of your system — put in a variable delay box between your preamp outs and power amp ins?

That has yet to be determined. I have an SMS-1 to play with; if phase adjustment isn't enough I have a Rane digital delay to put in-line as well. Unfortunately, the TGP-IV I have doesn't have separate adjustments for mains distance and sub distance.
BillD 239 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 It's really odd about time management in HT setups. The Oppo lets you set distances (for 8 channel output), but it demands that all speaker pairs are equidistant from the listener, and that each pair is < the distance to your mains. You know how the Sunfire works, which is a little more flexible.
RichP714 3,163 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 .....You know how the Sunfire works' date=' which is a little more flexible.[/quote'] The new 401 series has independant mains and subs setting for distance, but it's made in china http://thecarversite.com/specsheets/files/TGP-401%20specsheet.pdf
bob p 44 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 kinda reminds me of The Legend of El-Pipo. Yeah, El-Pipo. Now THOSE are BIG subs!
RichP714 3,163 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I've seen plans for those subs somewhere on the net, and yes, they are transmission lines like el-pipeo, but they are folded in on themselves (like a catadioptric telescope) so the air path is actually twice as long as the subs are high. It isn't simply a 30" wide tube, it's two tubes, one inside the other

It has no adjustment whatsoever for the sub except volume.
