another speaker question

i just hooked up my new Polk PSW-10 subwoofer to my Denon 7.1 i just ordered a polk center channel speaker. if i have the means should i but regular floor standing speakers for the surround or are "rear surround" speakers better for this??

Good question Steve.  While the latest versions of DTS and Dolby are full discrete formats (Meaning that the mixers have the capability to send the entire frequency bandwidth to ALL channels), It is extremely rare for any mix to have substantial low frequency information in either the surround or back channels.  That being said, there is no reason to invest the money into floor standing speakers for rear and surround use - that money would be much better spent elsewhere in your system.  Also, many "surround" type speakers are designed for a much different dispersal pattern than traditional floor standing, or even bookshelf speakers.  Good surrounds should "scatter" their sound across the walls, and gently fill the back and sides of the room.  Polk makes fine surrounds, that will blend well with your other speakers, and save you some money.  Plus, they are easier to work into your room decor!

I use a Denon 886 with full sized Rt600's on the surround, daddyJt is right the only time I have a lot of bass is in the 5/7 chan stereo mode wich is nice. The denon supports both with adjustable eq points so its your choice. Although helicopters are way cool with the full size!

 

My choice was driven by the size of my room and a 22ft high ceiling. The carver equip handles the front LR.

that makes sense to me. thanks. i have 1 more question. i have tried and cannot figure out home to hook my BSR EQ 3000 up to my Denon AVR 1906. i had the eq hooked up to a Carver HR 722 then 1 channel went out on ot. i found the denon and cant seem to figure out how it hooks up.

Normally I would hook up an EQ through a tape monitor or processor loop. Does your Denon have one?
