SteveFord 1,125 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 To drown out my coworkers, I'm looking for a CD player with a decent headphone section. Is there any such animal or should I just go with a cheapie from Wally World and go that route?
RobertR 847 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Seems to me that better phones will sound better, even on a cheap amp, unless you have impedance-matching problems or the better phones are somehow too inefficient for the low power that’s available. Other big considerations for this use are comfort and isolation. Never knew you worked with cows… Rob
SteveFord 1,125 Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Some of my coworkers are a little on the hefty side, yes... Seriously, are there any CD players with a really good headphone section? My old Carver CD players weren't up to the task and the Jolida is nothing to write home about in that regard.
OBI56 23 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I get pretty decent sound using my Stax SRM212 headphone amp hooked up directly to the output of my NAD CDP adn my Stax SR-202 headphones. Stax also makes a cute portable version of its electrostatic headphones wit a tiny headphone amp that you can hook up to the back of any CDP or preamp. http://www.yamasinc.com/sr-001mk2.htm Another possibility is getting a good, but inexpensive DAC and hooking that up to your CDP and phones.
