RichP714 3,163 Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 Looks like DVD-A has the theoretical advantage over SACD. I've heard there's not much well recorded material available on DVD-A though. Anyone?
BillD 239 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have some classical stuff (Handel, Mozart, Grofé ans Shostakovich) on DVD-A. I also have Gaucho (Steely Dan) Tommy (The Who) and Love (The Beatles) on DVD-A. The Pop/Rock stuff sounds terrific, and some of the classical stuff sounds great too. Others less so. I think it has to do with the master and the mastering. But, because none of the stuff I have is done at 192kHZ (only 24/96), SACD is superior. I also have a couple of DTS CDs that sound pretty good (my favorite is The Police Every Breath You Take DTS CD.
TNRabbit 371 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I agree with Bill in that the main difference is in the ORIGINAL recording & subsequent mastering. An SACD can sound like crap if it's made from a bad master/source.
