I appreciate the photos Jim. Looks like this is one project that has easier access than some. Now I forget, but what is the part that looks like a domino? I was thinking a diode.

C'mon you guys, this thread is just an attempt to seduce me back into vinyl. I grit my teeth knowing what I am missing.

I was late for work, and the boss was ready, waiting for me. "Exactly what time do you wake up in the morning?" He asked. Without hesitation, I replied, " Right before I exit the freeway." .....True story, I was quick with a response when not fully awake.

After 40+ years in audio, I have had the same feeling from time to time. As stated before, it is a journey, and there is nothing wrong about learning. A good friend of mine in Florida is usually finding all kinds of old used equipment at great prices. Most importantly, he enjoys what he finds.

Lyman,I am supposing that it worked on the TT cover. The question that I might have is about the many different plastics and how they would respond to a polish.

Come to think of it, my Emotiva claims to be able to play any CD sized disc. Ah, the format wars will keep the money flowing from us to them.

I tried using a special CD polish once and as careful as I was, I ended up making very light scratches in the disc. The original idea from the seller was to make perfectly flat, the surface that the laser had to read. Looking back it sounds like just another sales product. In the case of an already damaged CD, the polishing idea is More Better. Ummm, just trying to fit in guys.

CKJ,Welcome, and I must say that building your own speakers is the kind of thing that brings renewed life to your passion. Never forget to ask, "What if?" then try it.

True story: Last Saturday I went to the dentist to get a tooth pulled. It was infected, and he told it might hurt a bit. "Here, take this blue pill," he said. "what that?" I replied. "It's so you won't remember a thing that happened during this procedure. Then he handed a white pill and said to take it too. I asked and why and he replied, "Oh, that's Viagra. I figure that your gonna need something to hold onto during the procedure.".....he was right, so I hear.

This subject kinda made me laugh, remembering that back in the day (sometime between high school and marriage), I used to test out my speakers with the Frankenstein track from 'They only come out at night' by Edgar Winter. In some ways, it wasn't a bad track, and at the time I had some folded bass horns that made sure that you felt the low end.

Vinyl Facts
in Vinyl
Guys, The only thing that I want to mention is that this thread has some great information. I kinda scanned through it, but it just amazes me how long this medium has been around, and how many new ideas were made to improve it's playback and recording. I do remember an ad that I saw in Stereo Review maybe by Empire Cartridges. It showed one hand holding a record by means of a pencil stuck through the center hole, and the other hand holding the cartridge to the groove. It Read: "This is all we are trying to do, but more perfectly." I never forgot that ad.

Well, Let me be the first to say that you have quite a knack for making things look good. I mean that theleads on the resistors are bent exactly, as well as the other wiring. I still shake my head at some of my work.
