Ar9Jim 6,519 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I remember when these Polk speakers were new and remember how similar the principal of operation sounded to Carvers SH generator.I only heard these speakers one time and it was without SH.I have always wondered how the 2 technologies compare in a real word setting. What happens when the 2 are used in combination? Is the cross talk cancellation on the Polks able to be turned off or is it on full time?I enjoy SH and have been curious about the polk method and if it works as well.
sea 679 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I have both and feel like at their best the technologies are pretty equal. IMO, the Carver version is way more particular to listening position and precise set up of the speakers. The advantage being that any set of speakers can utilize the SH circuit. While it is possible to use both, and some do, I find it do just create a mess of echoes. 1
pindrop 330 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 The Polks are on full time when the umbilical cord is attached between the speakers, they also can be played without it plugged in as CT-Seven(Bryan) can attest to with his SRS2's hooked to his 500t mkll. He just doesn't have an SH unit but he says he loves the way the Polks sound, they just need the x-over rebuilt to get the best out of them and the x-over is a major part of how they work their magic beyond the umbilical. They can be set up normally as in set wide apart as opposed to close together and perfectly aimed in SH. 1
