halfbaked 267 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 My floors are hard tile over concrete. I have Martin Logan SL3's I'm using M L spikes on the front locations. I have L & R rear locations with gliders. I don't have spikes for the L & R rears. The rears being on a hard floor. Should I go for spikes or isolation/vibration (rubber) pads/feet?
halfbaked 267 Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 Give me a few this cell is not always as intuitive as I would like. Maybe I'm just trying to the square peg into the round hole. 1
Sk1Bum 11,404 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 I would try the rubber pads first, and if you're not happy with the sound, then try the spikes. I have ESLs, and the spikes helped on carpet over hardwood. 2
halfbaked 267 Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 Thanks that makes sense especially on a very hard floor trying to dampen vibration.
UncleMeat 1,173 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Spikes on hard flooring don't make sense to me. Any room resonance picked up by the floor will get transmitted back to the speaker, and any vibration generated by the speaker will be reflected back. I would put everything on rubber or felt pads. 1
halfbaked 267 Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 Not that gliders were terrible. Except I'm open a couple of subwoofers and now I started thinking of the hard floor will carry the vibration. So now I want to adjust while it is easier access atm. I agree about the hard floors but what was said are what I have now. So now I can shop around and look at other options. Besides a second opinion to make sure the way I was thinking had a logical foundation. Kingman I didn't forgrt a photo. On a pc I can easily manipulate size format import export. This cell is a different story. Now I should see the tracking for the replacement pc.
mbskeam 1,975 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 I just bought a case of 48 for 23.00 https://www.supplyhouse.com/DiversiTech-MP-2E-EVA-Anti-Vibration-Pad-2-x-2-x-7-8 i 2
halfbaked 267 Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 Thanks I have seen those but I did not know if they were good for audio. I feel better knowing someone that has had them.
donberry 44 Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 way off topic and something you may or may not find useful. I own a pair of the SL3 and at one time I also had a pair of Magnepan MGIIc that I was restoring/fixing and ordered a pair of new black cloth for them. Long story short, turned out the socks fit very nicely over my SL3's. Not a perfect fit but more than good enough. Of course there's no way to have any definitive data but I am of the belief that those socks have greatly extended the life of my panels. While I do slip them off if I'm going to sit down and do some serious listening but while they do "shade" the sound a small amount, surprisingly to me, it doesn't "shade" the sound all that much so unless I am doing that serious listening I just go ahead and leave them on...... and while I don't have any data to prove anything, it would take a heck of an argument to convince me my panels don't stay cleaner because of the socks. My house gets pretty dusty and sockless, those panels surely would have needed washed quite some time ago. They had new panels installed right before I bought them, I'm guessing 8 years or so ago so without the socks, there's probably a decent chance it would be time to start thinking about replacing them but for my at the time investment of $80 for a pair of MGIIc socks , I'm not even considering washing the panels yet let alone replacing them. Considering the ease of slipping them on and off and while they may not look quite as cool with the socks on, they don't look all that bad and as I am of a mind it has greatly increased their lifespan, for me, it's an $80 investment for my SL3 I think so much of I thought I'd really stray off topic here and share that info with you 2
halfbaked 267 Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 Very interesting idea, I will have to try it out. Considering thei age of the SL3 and the relatively minor investment it's worth trying out. Thank you.for the tip. Mbskeam at first I wondered about 48 count box. Then I started thinking how many I might use and it's always is better enough on hand and have the same look then trying to reorder and seeing that they have a new look.
