dcl 3,292 Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 The recording Old Fart At Play was the first introduction to the Cpt & Magic Band, it was on a compilation LP, Zapped on the Bizarre label, with selections by Frank Zappa, Wild Man Fisher, The GTOs, Alice Cooper...I was still shooting hoops after school at a backboard mounted over a neighbor's garage door when this bounced off the rim & into my Top 30 mind.
4krow 7,443 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 On a rare Sunday, I will try and listen to something that ranks with the worst. It might be like watching a really bad movie to the end. But even in that attempt, I will find something that I can't really hate because it came out the way that the artist intended. This leads me to wonder who/what possessed them to write the way that they did. It is an opposing view which I may learn from if I give it a chance. In my case it was the Mahavishnu Orchestra's album Apocalypse. Really difficult to hear such tension in music, yet it has a message. Is this akin to Beefheart?
xavionics 2,389 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Kinda like an audio equivalent to a Picasso. Thanks for the introduction! I've heard of this album but have never listened to it. Maybe one day when I have the house alone... My only previous exposure to Beefheart is on the Zappa Live album Bongo Fury I received as a Christmas gift from my older brother. I just read the lyrics to all the songs on Bongo Fury, to refresh my memory. 1975 was one helluva year... 1
