HoraceAnkle 10 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Hello everyone, I just joined the site and have no clue if I am doing anything correctly. I might as well get straight to the point. I purchased a MXR-130 "The Receiver" new back in the 80`s. It has never had a major service and currently will not power up. I am in Northern California and have contacted Hi-Tech Audio as they seem to be the closest option. I did not see the MXR-130 listed on Nelion Audio website so I am unsure if they service this unit. Was wondering if anyone can point me to any threads as I am wondering what I might expect in terms of additional life on this unit after servicing. Are there typical issues that pop up and or any mods that might be compatible. Thank you in advance for your time and Happy Holidays. 1
Sk1Bum 12,731 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Hello HoraceAnkle and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us! You're doing just fine, and here's where you will find threads on the MXR-130 and other Carver receivers: https://thecarversite.com/forum/82-receivers/ There are six pages of topics, and there are 3 related to the MXR-130 on the first page. One of the threads was started by @Nahash5150, the owner of Nelion Audio, and the Technical Admin here. I hope that helps. 1 1
HoraceAnkle 10 Posted December 13, 2025 Author Posted December 13, 2025 I really cannot wait to have the work done and start enjoying music on it again. I was I pretty young man when I purchased it and I miss how it drove my speakers, great dynamics. I noticed over the years the little detent feeling in the volume knob seemed to go smooth at the first quarter turn. Would like to get that back again if possible. Thanks for the welcome Sk1Bum. 1
Rob 6,267 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Welcome to the site. I had bought mine in 1987 and then April 2020 had Nelionaudio restore it for me. After all the parts replaced and spraying of knobs, it was as good as new. They are great receivers and last a long time. But they need to be used often and possibly spraying the knobs from time to time. 1
HoraceAnkle 10 Posted December 13, 2025 Author Posted December 13, 2025 Thank you Rob. So Nelion audio does service the MXR-130. I must reach out to them. Once I get it restored it will see plenty of use again I am sure of that. 3

Half Life 1,089 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Welcome from VA! Enjoy your stay! I don't have any experience with Hi Tech Audio but have sent two pieces to Greg at Nelion. Very pleased with how both turned out! While I like to do my own repairs, these were two pieces that I felt an expert would bring the maximum life and value of of them. Well worth it to me. Glad to have you with us! 1
HoraceAnkle 10 Posted December 13, 2025 Author Posted December 13, 2025 Thank you Half Life. It is nice to see so many people capable of doing their own repairs here. I wish I had more time and energy to devote to it but at this point in my life, I really need to be honest with myself and use a pro. I will reach out to Nelion and see what they have to say. 1
