Julio 7 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Hello, my name is Julio. I live in Argentina and I am an enthusiastic admirer of the famous Phase Linear Series II amplifier, which in the 1980s was one of the most commonly seen power amplifiers in the best nightclubs in Buenos Aires. I even had the opportunity to repair a few of them—and also to burn one or two! I am an electronics technician, and back then I was just getting started. There wasn't nearly as much information available as there is today, and of course there were no AI tools. It was very difficult to find service manuals, and free video tutorials like the ones we have today were simply unimaginable. I would like to relive some of those days, and that's why I'm here. I would love to build my own Phase Linear amplifier. By the way, in July I will be starting a course on Class A amplifier design that I recently enrolled in. Greetings to everyone, and thank you for welcoming me to the group. 6
Half Life 1,468 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Welcome from Virginia! Enjoy your stay! I spent about 7 months in Argentina back in the 90's, installing a cellular network. Mostly around the Chaco, Formosa area. I lived in Resistencia. Got to BA twice. Hope to go back someday. Glad to have you with us! 1
Dennis47 1,028 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago WELCOME @Julio! Phase Linear amps... Are you familiar with the White Oak upgrade for the Phase linear amplifiers? 1
Julio 7 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago @Dennis47 Yes, about one or two years ago I wrote to them. I told them how much I liked their products and asked what they thought about the possibility of building an amplifier myself directly from their circuits, rather than restoring an existing unit. My idea was to build the power amplifier section and control it using the White Oak circuitry. Honestly, I expected them to support the idea and offer whatever assistance might be necessary to achieve that goal, but it was quite the opposite—it was rather discouraging. The response was something along the lines of, "If you know what you're doing, then go ahead." That wasn't the kind of answer I was expecting, especially considering the amount of money involved in a project like this. So, I eventually abandoned the project and may pursue something of my own in the future. 1
