Belvedere2 241 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Any easy way to use banana plugs on 901 posts? Some sort of screw on adapter maybe? The wires I use for my Maggies have banana plugs. It would be much easier to just be able to swap a single set of wires versus the two I have now. From the looks of the 901s it would be a pain to open them up to install binding posts. Thanks!
kve777 6,897 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Old 901's? I used to have a pair of originals, I had to replace all of the drivers due to a very bad AMPZILLA. Anyway, looking at the wires inside, I would deem it a requirement to rewire with better stuff and install proper binding posts. Do one, compare them. You will have to map the internal wiring it's parallel AND series. Don't mess up the phasing. Here's your map- If you really don't want to go in, an L or Z bracket on the back could piggyback the posts with short wires. BTW- did you try the 901 EQ with the Maggies? Just curious if it helps them, too...
zumbini 6,153 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I don't recall what style binding posts are on the 901s but it's pretty easy to make adapters. Here's a set of binding post adaptors that RodH made to fit the spring clips on an M-400:
Belvedere2 241 Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Series vi. I'm just not in the mood to use a hammer to tap off the lid. I may have to do that. A rewire would be nice; always like to improve stuff. I did have the EQ on when I first used the Maggies. It was more of a "oh s**t" moment versus checking the sound. It did sound different when I turned it off so as long as it doesn't harm anything I may just try it out.

Those adapters would work just wrap the wire but I'd like something more solid. I'll probably have to delve into them.
Belvedere2 241 Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Tried the EQ. Traffic sounds all screwed up so thats a no go.

I've used those before for automotive tasks but when it came to my speakers I never used em. Must be some brain malfunction.
kve777 6,897 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 A bracket like this might help on the back to keep things stable-
kve777 6,897 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 This is your wiring- I like the yellow 'antennae lead' from #9 + terminal. 1
Maddmaster 1,027 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 The cabinets on the 901's is sealed plastic matrix. You are better off using the U-Connector on the end of the wires. I would use a closed O-Connector instead of the U-Connector. Also unless those banana plugs are extremely tight they may come loose if they are plugged in and left vertical when the 901's are on the stands. The EQ was designed for the 901's only. Each series had it's own version of the EQ series to match each 901 series. What the EQ actually does is make the highs higher and bass lower for the 901 drivers. When you use it on a conventional speaker it can cause damage to you speakers if you crank them up too high.
Belvedere2 241 Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Thanks again. I'll have plenty of time to figure something out. I only use them now in nice weather. I can open the windows and listen to music outside.
