  1. First thing I'd do is hit every switch, pot and connector with DeOxit and articulate them vigorously. Dirty tape monitor switches, balance pots, etc can almost eliminate the output. The least used ones are most suspect as they can build up a layer of crud that will not conduct. Oxidation on connector pins inside will do this, too. Hint: take pics if you are going to unplug a lot of connectors. Some will fit in multiple sockets. Clean the input/output jacks, too. Let us know if this helps.

  2. I removed the amp board from my Av806x that was popping and playing up .
After reflowing any solder joints that looked remotely suspicious and reassembling.. Popping noises are gone!!
    Yippee

While I was in there I noticed the transformers have jumpers for 240v (the unit is 120 volt supply, I'm running it on 240v with a stepdown) if anyone knows whether it's just a matter of Changing the jumpers or if there is more to it than that , would be a big help?

The preamp may not be so easy to find the problem.. Might be time to make a dedicated thread for it.
    Welcome!
According to the schematic, just proper jumper positions will let you run it on 240VAC. I believe the fuse value must be halved as well. What model preamp?

  3.

I had an old JVC turntable that was damaged in storage and not useable. I have not had a TT hooked up to the new Carver setup.

The C1 has two sets of phono inputs and I am not familiar with the 2nd type. The manual notes there is a moving magnet phono cartridge and moving coil phono cartridge.  I want to make sure I get a TT that will work well with the C1.  There is also also a small connector in the moving coil sort of like an outlet protector. I am trying to upload pictures but get a file too large error.
What model JVC? I have a JVC parts TT. If you still have it.
The moving coil cartridges have a much lower signal voltage and need additional amplification over moving magnet, which are much more common. The switch below is for matching the cartridge electrically. You put it in the center, if it sounds good, leave it, if it sounds a little muddy, try one of the other two positions, use whichever sounds best. There's a more technical way to set itm, but that works for 99.9% of users.

  4. I have several TT's for sale. I have a Rega Planar 2, A BIC, A JVC and an Empire 398. Prices range from $100.00 to $500.00. The Rega Planar 2 fits nicely into your budget. $350.00 with a new-ish belt and new stylus on an Audio Technica Cartridge. Includes proper packing and shipping to Buffalo, NY. The Empire is just over, at $550, with shipping. The BIC and JVC can be had for under $200 each, including shipping. All have new belts and styli.

  5. Welcome Mr. Bert!  Does the 62 indicate your birth year? I was born in '62. Glad you found us! Lots of Classic Rock listeners here, myself included.

  6. I'm pretty sure you're asking too much of your tv to decode one audio for its self and another for your receiver. Might be time to upgrade. I finally gave up my Sony STR-DA4ES for HT.

I have an Anthem AVM20(by Sonic Frontiers) that has Group Audio Delay for syncing with the picture. The AVM20 is an amazing unit and can be had for under $400.00 because it has no HDMI ports. HERE I use an automatic HDMI switcher to choose Cable box, BluRay or DVD that I got on eBay for $20.00. The AVM20 is just for audio and I can hook up lots of Carver amps to it. It even has three zones.

  7. Not exactly, It is kind of like a six shooter alright but how it works is when
you start the playback your never know which song you are going to hear

One time you will hear one song and then the next time it may be another

That is why they call it Rush N Roulette, you can never tell which one you will hear

I'm not sure how they did it but if I had to guess they pressed all six songs right next
to each other in the grooves and it is according to which groove the needle first lands in which song gets played

I have seen this record go on Ebay for as much as $500 for it is very rare but I got this one for $85
to me it still seems high (very high) but this was the cheapest I have ever seen it
    Now I get it! Cool!
  8. Steve, you really have to stop reading(specs) and start listening. The magic is NOT in those numbers.

Re-program your brain! The only way you will find out what amps sound good to YOU is by trying them in your system.

  9. Which song orders did you get?

For those that don't know this album-The order of the songs, 6 songs, like a six shooter, is randomly pressed, same six songs on both sides, in different order. In 1981 there was no CD Shuffle button. This was the closest thing to that. Cool!

  10. Sounds like a "solid" idea to me. I've always thought that small grave headstones would be great. Samples or mistakes from local shops. Cool creepy factor, too.
Concrete is a good material, too. You can make your own forms and color them, just the way you want.
