madmike46 398 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Well I now own these speakers and this turntable now. I have installed a Grado green cartridge, so I will spend some time breaking in the cartridge in the next week or so and let you guys know what I think of this cartridge.
RodH 4,866 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 IIRC - the spiders were the weak point in the older Technics woofers. Have you thought about rotating them 180 degrees to counteract the effects of years of gravity?

Have you thought about rotating them 180 degrees to counteract the effects of years of gravity? That was one of the first things I did after cleaning them up. I had a real close look at the spiders and I didn't see anything out of the unusual. My tweeter fix is holding out real well, spent a few days leaning hard on the volume control and every thing is working great. Turntable has a few minor adjustments to do but nothing that is really pressing right now.
RodH 4,866 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Excellent! Some day I'm going to land a set of the SB's with the big midrange horn...someday.

madmike46 398 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Well my buddy came up with so numbers and now I own a new to me Mitsubishi LT-30 and a [air of Technics SB-7000A speakers. I now have about 25 hours on that new Grado cartridge. The sound stage is starting to open up, lots of nice tight bass, the high end is lacking a little but I sure that will improve once I get more hours on the cartridge.
Ratamahatta 437 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Those are nice! sure wish that company did not go to waste
RPA-1 Man 620 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Those are really nice speakers. Almost bought a set back in the day. Can't remember why I didn't though.
madmike46 398 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 I have been giving these a good listen here in the last while. Also been leaning on the volume control pretty hard and the tweeter fix seems to be holding up. I can't believe how these speakers image. Most of the time I don't even have the SH turned on. If you guys ever get a chance to listen to a pair, don't pass that chance up, you'll be surprised the sound quality from a pair of late 70's speakers. I would like to have a listen the the SB-10000.
