Bought a sunfire TGP-5 and when testing it (volume up) it distorted and blew the bass fuse on my ALIII. Replaced fuse but no ribbon working. (These have the high/low strips in place) So both fuses are good, checked the ribbon and it is fine. So something in the crossover is bad. I can open up my other amazing and then compare values with my multimeter to try and track down the bad component or is there a better way to find what is blown?

Sounds like the right way to diag them, break out the DMM.

I have a pair of AL-III+(no pots) crossovers and a 48" ribbon if you need parts.

Ends up not the crossover, the famous daughter board connection to the mylar is bad the circuit trace is worn through, I have a trace pen and the gunk is drying right now but I need to send it in to be happy with this. I had read that there was a current delay in the materiel order right now so a quick ribbon rebuild sounds out for now.

I would love to see a documented ribbon rebuild. The Kapton issue seems to be a long running problem.

I have the tweeters from SteveMKentucky's CRM-2's apart. I am going to attempt to build new diaphragms. I have Kapton tape(actually called Koptan, it's a knock-off)and am awaiting the arrival of some copper tape. The originals are aluminum foil, but I want to try copper as well. I will cut by hand at first. Also, I will try a plotter cutter for vinyl. If I can get it right, it would be quick and easy. I have a working AL-III ribbon, but don't want to ruin it. If anyone wants to ship me a bad Amazing ribbon, I will attempt it.
