I have been fascinated by this company and the products they make in the Home Audio space.

There is a new Dominion series that I had not noticed about 3-4 months ago.

Interestingly as tid-bit, they have an E-series, F(athom), G(otham) and now D(ominion), which is EFGD, missing ABC in the middle. Cool

Has anyone had a chance to audition these? Any opinions if you have?

I heard their big one - not sure which model (two 12" vertically stacked), and it was breath taking - literally. Their build quality is superb, and their tech is outstanding. When I need a new sub, I will most likely go with JL....

I will try and get one of Dominions for an audition and see how it sounds. Will report back in a couple of weeks.

You are probably referring to this one.

I used to have 2 a single JL 10w7 in a custom slot-ported down-firing box that I built myself in a 1st gen (1987) Honda CRX, and that thing POUNDED LOL!!! The woofers they use in their home audio subs look VERY similar (if not the same) as their car audio W7's......those things have some INCREDIBLE innovations in woofer technology.

How does the JL Audio sub compare to a SVS subwoofer?

While I don't personally have any experience with either of these......I don't think it's a very fair comparison.  These two shouldn't even be considered in the same ballpark, let alone the same SPORT happy0009.gif LOL!!!  While I know the SVS subs have an excellent following and many people swear by them, I think the JL subs are just in a completely different class.  Maybe somebody else with personal experience can tell me if I'm just blowing smoke or not out.gif LOL!!!

Yes, different sport all together. No offense to the SVS crowd - It's just not a fair comparison...

I had an SVS SB-2000 and the JL E110 in the same room, for almost a month. I bought a refurb SB-2000 just to test it.

Played Skyfall, Fifth Planet, DSOTM SACD, Star Trek (the volcano scenes).

On the SB-2000 alone,

1. Skyfall was completely muddy in the helicopter scenes and the explosion scenes.
2. The volcano scene was a non-starter.
3. Fifth element, the titles and craft landing was a bit easier to handle.

I used both SB-2000 and E110 together in a daisy chain (E110 allows this in setup), and I could tell the difference between the two. The plate-amp was bad the first time, but SVS customer service did a very fine job and sent a replacement quickly.

Removed the SB-2000 (it was eventually returned), added a second E110, and Skyfall and Fifth Element was an eye-opener. My kids almost threw me out of the house. I was relegated and confined to the basement for the night.

BarryG and Fill35U have heard the 2ch with a single E110. Flight of the Cosmic Hippo from Carver Reference CD#1 shakes the basement like no other. I have no plans to use the HT setup to play the CD and be divorced and disowned at the same time.

I have heard the Fathom and Gotham at the JLA dealer on stereo setup (the dealer does not have much of a HT room). They are even better, but the price is not very amenable. I prefer two physically separate E110s to a dual-sub setup.

I also played Top Gun as a test on 2 x E110 setup using HD-DVD, and it is most excellent.

I would highly recommend the JLA subs.
