hi guys I can't figure this out so I thought I would go to the collective. I have four pairs of infinity speakers. I'm trying to repair it and find good homes for some. My current project is the RS6 three way speaker. They were rotting in someone's garage so I've repaired all that. But the two speakers came with two different woofers, they are both Polycone 8 inch infinity drivers. One of them however is four ohm and the other is eight. The magnet size is different too. Everything I find it says it's either four or 8 ohms. Nothing specific to this particular model. How can I figure out what is needed? Anyway to know that from the crossover?

Perhaps the RS6 and RS6B used different woofers and one was used as a replacement for the other?

Dom, thats exactly what I was thinking too.  One had been replaced with the wrong driver.  The xover should tell the story I would think.  If they are matching x overs in the box then one driver has been replaced with wrong driver.   Perhaps the x overs can direct which model it's suppose to be.

I was looking for info on the difference between the RS-6 and RS-6B, but there doesn't seem to be much out there. Anyone know?

I saw that. There must be some reason for the 2 different woofer impedances though.

Crossovers are identical. I had a pair of the RS6B as well. I pulled the Drivers and chucked the damaged cabinets, That pair had both woofers replaced with the wrong drivers. These speakers are typical 30 year old units in need Of love. I just can't throw them away. They sound really good Compared to most cheap speakers nowadays. I would like to just buy a couple of refoamed woofers. Then I can give these to someone who would appreciate them.

Wow. Didn't think of that! I'll give it a shot.

When in doubt, go back to the source...

Have the serial #s handy when you call them. If the paper labels have fallen off (typical) check the crossover boards.
