Guest RodH Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 A good friend of mine just donated a pair of Audiosphere Research AR-18-s to me. A long gone Canadian speaker manufacturer, they made some interesting goodies and also their fair share of crap. This particular model has a bit of a cult following up here in the Great White North: as the ultimate rock-out monsters. Poor man's Altec 19's if you will. That's an 18" rolled surround woofer that can handle gigawatts of power and is surprisingly not so woolly. The top end however is good at REALLY FREAKIN' LOUD, not so good at detail - we call 'em ear-bleed tweeters around here. I'm going to re-do the topside, build some new grills - as these have none. Back in the day the first thing we did was pitch the grills.....young & stupid, & some were stoned as well. I needed something for that MXR2000 to drive!
kve777 6,906 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 GOD! Are you using these indoors or out? Why am I reminded of Realistic Mach 2's? Got any snow yet?
Guest RodH Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 No snow yet - but guess how I'm clearing the driveway this winter! And I just missed a pair of these original Mach-1's for $20 on the local classifieds: Got sniped by the same gent who gave me the AR-18's!! And I still have a pair of the Nova-8B's at my cottage (with newer tweets)
oldtexasdog 2,495 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Gosh Rod the Bears won't be able to hibernate their gonna stay up all winter farting
Guest RodH Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 That's what they get for eating my bean garden - miserable beasts!

I'll bet they will rock the house. How did you sneak those by the wife??

PDR 1,195 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Nice grab Rod.... I have a old pair of Scott speakers lying around the house......196 (?) I think... They also have 15" woofers....been wondering what I could build with those woofers.....maybe a ripole... Have fun with the new toys.....I'd try a little ACDC to start......

jldeni 449 Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 AAhhhh, the old hide em in the closet for a while then pull them out later and say, Oh these old things were in the closet ...a useful technique that I have to admit I've employed more than once. However, even when it doesn't work - I do believe it's easier to beg forgiveness after the fact than to ask permission before! Enjoy the new stuff, Rod! (Can you believe I've only been married twice? Second one's a gem!)
