Guest mjcmt Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 My first Carver: Receiver 900 for radio playback Altec Model 15 speakers Would like to add the DTL-50 16 bit player because it's look and style matches, though I've heard it's not a true Carver and doesn't sound all that good. Still it's look is identical to the 900. By the way how do you post photos?

zumbini 6,150 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 SWEET! Those Altec's bring back a lot of memories. (I drooled over a pair for many years.) You mentioned adding a DTL-50 but I think a DTL-200MK2 would be a better cosmetic match to your 900. Both are old technology but mine sound pretty good run through a tube buffer to tame the brassy high end. This is the DTL-50 This is the DTL-200

It's your call but the DTL-200 is the same color (brushed aluminum), width (19") and has the same handles as your 900. (My DTL-50 is anthracite and is only 17 1/4" wide.) Here's my DTL-50 sitting on top of an MXR-130 I picked up recently. Here's the DTL-200MK2 sitting under an M-1.0t and CT-Seven (This is my son's system.)
kve777 6,889 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Nice rig mjcmt, I see you need a knob for your 900, Les (circuitsandconcepts) has them HERE
BluesMan57 1,416 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Great looking setup mjcmt, love those Altec's...............

I guess I don't like the rack ear look, but the flush sides. That being said, I'd be happy with any unit that comes my way to inspire me to purchase it. (If fact I'd probably be more interested in an iPod Classic vs. a vintage cdp.)
Guest mjcmt Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Great looking setup mjcmt, love those Altec's............... In the back of my mind I've wanted a pair of Altec's for a very long time. Ever since I heard my friends Heatkit AS-101 (rebaged Altec Lancing Valencia or home version of the Voice of the Theater) in HS I've wanted them, but they are very pricey for me these days. I found the Model 15s (same bent horn as the Model 19, but with a 12" woofer instead of a 15") at a good price. They are a bit smaller than the Valencia and Model 19 too and we live in a town home w/ small rooms so all is well. Here is another view:
sanford lindstrom 35 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Great looking system!! Your system proves that you don't need separates to get that classic look. Welcome!!
