Daddyjt 9,633 Posted April 27, 2013 Author Posted April 27, 2013 No, I caught that too. I'm going to switch the ICs and see if the right channel is working harder - should tell me if its the speakers or the amp...?
Daddyjt 9,633 Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 Nice I had a pair of those and still kick myself in the ass for getting rid of them, especially for the price I got them for. Yes they do take plenty of high current power, not as much as the Infinity's I have now but they still need a lot. The Kappa 9's were notorious for frying even the best amps because they would dip below 1 ohm load so unless you can find a really beefy and amp I would take them off your list, they dont really sound any better than the Kappa 8's anyways with a sub IMO. I take it you never got to biamp those Kappa 9a's with 4 Silver 7t monoblocks? And I've had a chance to hear those 8.1's on a Krell KSA amp. Those 8.1's have a little more thump than the original Kappa 8's but the Kappa 9"s are in a whole class of thier own if you have the room and the power to boot. Arnie designed those speakers perfectly. I figured you'd weigh in on this, Gene... And for the record, I'd buy a pair of 9s in a second, if they came available - but I won't take out a second mortgage to do it:-)
Daddyjt 9,633 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Just bought this AV705x to run my 4 surrounds in my HT setup, which will allow me to bi-amp the Kappas with my TFM 55x on the lows, and my TFM 35x on the highs Those things are SOOO power hungry, but the sound is oh so worth it! They even push my 1.0t mkII to the limit. It is nice when actual necessity allows OCCD to flourish without guilt http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carver-AV-705x-THX-Premiere-Power-Amplifier-5-channel-AMP-500-watts-Home-Theater-/261213780301?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item3cd18df94d
Nahash5150 10,760 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 It's not unusual for the 500t meters to be out of calibration.
Gene C 1,748 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 One of these days you may get your hands on a pair of Silver 7t's or 9's for those Kappa's....then all hell is gonna break loose!

Rub it in, Gene I think I'd have to have my main electrical service upgraded, to run all the amps you have I did acquire another Rich modified 1.0t, coming out of Dallas - maybe I'll have to try those, bi-amping the Kappas...? I wonder how many people bought Kappas and tried to run them off an A/V receiver?? I imagine that would lead to a pretty disappointing experience...

Had my buddy add another box outside for electrical last year. I used up the spares on the original for 3 different 230v outlets in the garage. Made my drops in the living room from the 2nd box with room to spare.
dokblues 101 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Great set of Infinity`s! Pushed that M550t to the limits and beyond. Once you Bi-amp those look out! BTW you do know that those monster Infinity`s will dip to 2ohms when pushed hard so be careful.
