RonW. 41 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I have a pair of Cornwall II's vintage late '80's with up graded Crites titanium diaphragms and new crossovers. I will be running these thru a Carver C4000t, M500t (soon to be a MKII), TX-11a and a DTL-200 along with a Sony CDP-C85ES and a Teac X2000R. Other than "LOUD" what do you think of this set up? Thanks, RonW.
RichP714 3,169 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 The Cornwall II are very transparent; I love mine (the sound is 'they are here' rather than 'you are there') I have the Crites Ti tweeters as well, but decided to go active rather than rebuild the crossovers
RonW. 41 Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Thanks RichP, I can't wait for the MKII!! RW.
BluesMan57 1,664 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Ron ,sounds like a very nice set up you got there. I would have to agree with Rich the Cornwall II's are a very transparent speaker. I run mine with one of Rich's M1.0t Mk II amps and it is truly a sweet sound. Sounds good soft or as loud as you can stand it. Enjoy..........
Daddyjt 9,868 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Ron, Another fellow klipsch owner here:-) I was bi-amping mine with a pair of Rich's 1.0t mkIIs, and I LOVED the transparency and dynamics. However, I recently switched over to a pair of 500t mkIIs, and THAT combination is pure MAGIC!! The 500t seems a tidge softer on the highs, which is a great match for the horns. The only down side to running Klipsches with the mkII amps, is you'll NEVER utilize all that power:-)
RonW. 41 Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to the MKII's. my gear as been in storage for over ten years and its suffering from old age capacitors. I should be getting the pre-amp any day from a refresh with sonic upgrades. I've been on Rich's waiting list since last September and I will be sending in the M500t for the MKII upgrade in about a week. It's been so long since I've enjoyed the system especially with the upgrades, I'm like a kid waiting for Santa Claus.... I know tht the Cornies are very efficient, and the upgraded power of the MKII will really drive them and blow out the dust! My den is 18' x 28' with cathedral ceilings, and I just can't wait to "crank it up" and fill up the room. Ampless in New Orleans.... RonW.
RichP714 3,169 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 .....I was bi-amping mine with a pair of Rich's 1.0t mkIIs, ...I recently switched over to a pair of 500t mkIIs, ..... I have no record of you owning any mk II amplifier, and you weren't awarded the mk II medal; if this is in error, please contact me

I also have 2 of Kall's, that I have fixed the TIP 35 & 36 transistors, as well as adding the insulating duct tape barrier. (you were kind enough to help me through this process in this thread: http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=8541 I also own a 500t mkII that I purchased from Kevin (KVE777) about 4 months ago, and I have a second 500t mkII that I purchased from a Craigslist ad in the Seattle area (Tacoma). I am also about to embark on MY OWN (probably with a lot of help from Greg) 500t upgrade. And just to round things out, I just purchased a very nice 500t that Bill D re-capped 2 years ago, for $600. (though not a mkII, I couldn't resist a Bill D amp to go with my Bill D C1 that I purchased from Wayne (WRF) Sorry for any confusion... Mark

All of those don't exist in my sales database; they must be either second or in some cases third owners; I don't know which original owners to update my records with your contact info, so I'll just ignore that and hope they hold together and don't need service. If any of them do, just remind me that you are not the original owner, and you don't know who was

If any of them do, just remind me that you are not the original owner, and you don't know who was I feel as though I have violated some (unbeknownst to me) protocol here, and if that is the case, I sincerely apologize. When I started acquiring these units, I contacted you via PM, and asked if you had record (serial numbers) of the units that you had upgraded. You responded that, if it had your sticker on the front, then it was your work. My 2 1.0ts bare your sticker. Before I purchased either, I requested, and received, photos of the font and the internals. The first one looks like a textbook example of your work, from everything that I've seen. The second one has one difference from all that I've seen: the legs on the 35C & 36C transistors have small copper wires soldered to them, to make the extension to fully contact the PCB pad, to which they are then soldered to. I did not notice this in the photos the seller sent me. Everything else in the amp looks exactly like the other photos of your work I've seen. My 500ts were not done by you - neither bare your sticker. I should have made this more clear in my prior response. The one from Kevin was done by someone by the name of Mike Marshall (IIRC - could be wrong there). The other was not specified, but in the photos I requested, it as the Sankens and different caps and piggy-backed power diodes. I would never expect you to perform service on my equipment without compensation, whether you did the original work or not. Again, I sincerely apologize if I violated protocol, or offended you in any way. Mark
RichP714 3,169 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 .....I feel as though I have violated some (unbeknownst to me) protocol here, and if that is the case, I sincerely apologize..... No worries, at all It's my fault for not capturing serial numbers (When I started I didn't expect I'd be doing so many and still doing so 5 years later) I gave away the recipe, but didn't expect that people aside from myself would be doing this commercially; the original idea was to start a dev forum (this site) and since I gave away the details under the open source hardware license, my assumption was that there'd be an active community of developers (as there is with open source software ) so far, I'm the only one that has contributed to the development community (the fulcrum bias pivot and upcoming gmod); the remainder of mk II out there are either people making them for their own gear (bravo guys) or leeches using the formula for profit I only asked because I've had several people try to get me to fix their broken mk II's, only to find out that they were mk2's which I won't touch. 1

I understand that you won't touch mk2 modded amps (And I completely understand the "why"). HOWEVER, you were a GREAT help to ME, in getting my mk2 amps "out of the weeds" so to speak. Thank you for looking at my photos a while back, and offering your input. I feel much better about them now, having made the changes you outlined, THANK YOU!
