  1. I placed an order yesterday for new electrolytic caps for my ALS III’s. I went cheap on this event, not opting for higher-end caps. One of these crossovers has taken out a channel on two different amps…🤨
  2. Ah yes, an understandable assumption. Yes, we are all Carver fans, but we appreciate all things audio. I have recapped a few vintage Pioneer amps for a friend who has built an impressive collection of their late ‘70s era silver face gear. We’re a pretty inclusive group here. Feel free to show off what you have! 👍👍
  3. Welcome aboard @Tuesfurioza! Yes, mostly home audio guys but there are a few car audio buffs here. I’m one of them. 😁 I have an extensive collection of A/D/S gear I’ve accumulated. I just wasn’t aware of Carver car audio at the time. I’ve recapped my amps recently and did a burn in on some speakers in my basement shop. The ADS amps will rival most good home audio gear. I’m sure those Carver car amps will too!
  4. I dig my old work printer out today to use in my basement. I connected it to my laptop to set it up. The only usb/printer cable I had handy was this one from AudioQuest. Now it will only print images of Diana Krall, Dire Straits or Steely Dan.
  5. What a great video! EveAnna reveals her deep understanding of her craft. Just like Bob does. I hope additional esteemed designers follow suit with similar videos. Videos like this serve well to explain the difference between listening and measuring. The internet has a few who measure. Too bad they are so loud in their voice. The real world has, I dare say, millions who actually listen. Schaumburg will be hosting many in a few weeks.
  6. Welcome aboard Kevin! The manuals are available under the ‘Manuals and Spec sheets tab along the top. Good info in there. Includes schematics and a couple service bulletins. I have a m1.0t on my bench right now. Just did a recap and upgraded the binding posts. LOTS of experience here. You found the right place for sure. Dont hesitate to ask questions. Folks here are happy to help! Oh, and please tell us what other gear you have. Pictures are always welcome!
  7. Problems were resolved and the site resumed operation Friday, 01-19 2024. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding!
  8. Welcome aboard @Johnny_Law! Tell us of your other gear, musical tastes, etc. You should be able to add pics now too. As for the TFM, start a repair thread in the Amplifier section. Describe the symptoms, your capabilities and test gear, etc. That will be the best launch pad to your journey.
  9. Welcome to the site Brian! Les @Circuits & Concepts is a member here and a valuable source for parts. I’ve purchased several power supply kits from him a and have been very happy with them. I did a couple TFM-25 rebuilds a few years ago, chronicled here: There is a pic of all the caps I removed. And pics of the “upgrade” parts I.e. binding posts, etc. The pic of the removed caps just happens to show the values. When you dive into this, start a new thread. Add pics, chronicle your work, ask for help if needed. You’re in good company here… 😎
  10. Time to resurrect this thread for some of the newer arrivals here! My wife an I compiled a playlist titled “Taking The Ferrari Out” - as in “sometimes you gotta uncover that sports car, take it out of the garage and DRIVE it! This was inspired by United Home Audio’s room at AXPONA 2017, where they hosted an “after show” gathering. It was something to experience, watching 15 or more heads were bobbing to Led Zep cracked up on a $300,000 MBL system. So, with that, we kicked off our playlist with this…
  11. DIY turntable builds fascinate me! Love the magnetically aligned pivot bearing idea. Simple in concept, elegant in execution I think. Although the linear tracking arm setup is cool too. So, Jim, when are we gonna start development on the Bob Carver turntable? I have a direct drive plinth and platter to donate to the cause...😉
  12. A few of the Rockford neighbors gathered for a day in late July, 2023….
  13. I have a 16” x 16” concrete paver I have used under a turntable when all I had was a wire rack system at the time. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Square-Gray-Concrete-Patio-Stone-Common-16-in-x-16-in-Actual-16-in-x-16-in/3034746 Cheap, readily available and effective. Just wrap it with some wood of your choice…😎
  14. Reading about Bob’s initial introduction of his Sonic Holography system is what cemented his name in my mind. Add to that the Carver Amp Challenges and I was further intrigued. One day, a friend replaced his unimpressive receiver with a pair of PL components. I was quite impressed! Eventually, I finally bought my c-1 and m1.0t. The hook was set. Oh, and I stumbled upon this article this morning. Nelson Pass goes a long way into explaining feedback and it’s effects on the signal, measurable distortions and sound quality. Pretty interesting read over coffee…. https://www.passlabs.com/technical_article/audio-distortion-and-feedback/
  15. One thing the military teaches (or at least, taught) is this: Praise in public, criticize in private. The “mainstream” audio press follows this rule. They have to, their lives depend on it. To explain - when I have read negative comments made regarding a product, they include mention of the reviewer reaching out to the manufacturer for clarification and/or even another copy of the product to test. They give the product’s manufacturer an opportunity to rectify the reviewer’s negative findings. This is fair. It is also rather rare in my experience, but it happens and is dealt with fairly. ASR (and others) don’t appear to understand this. At least I have seen no evidence of it in my admittedly small exposure to them. Because they do not (seem to) contact anyone for clarification, their integrity is compromised in my eyes. I would also consider their followers’ integrity compromised as well. This seems to be common everywhere on the internet. Folks being incognito behind a false persona makes it easy to lash out with little to no consequence. Maybe it strokes their ego. Maybe they are completely unaware. But they do leave their mark on someone somewhere. In conclusion, I really do enjoy the sound of the current Carver products. I’ve had the fortune to spend many hours listening to each of them. No matter what the SINAD says….😎
