  1. Hey Les, hope I can help. I have done about six woofers and a couple of mids from various manufactures. I was happy with the results on all. I removed the dust caps on the very first pair I did. I used shims as called for in the many instructions I found. I bought a new dust caps with the surrounds. All the rest I replaced the foam without removing the dust caps. I read somewhere to use a signal generator at 30Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz depending on the size and frequency of the speaker. Use just enough volume to barely excite the speaker. It will keep the voice coil centered at midrange in its travel. You use this tone the entire time you are gluing it up and the glue sets. I did not have a sig gen at the time so I used Audacity to create MP3 tones and put them on my iPod. I used on old set of ear buds to make a cable. You get the picture. There seems to be a lot of methodes including using a 1.5V C cell. I think that pushes the voice coil to far out or in. But some swear by it.
  2. Our local library is lacking. However, a couple of years ago I was visiting my daughter in Neptune Beach (Jacksonville) FL. During the day while she was at work I spent time at the local library. I was amazed at the number of CD's in their collection. I forgot about this source. Maybe our library has expanded their inventory. I think I will give them a visit.
  3. Where do you get your inspiration for trying new music? Where do research artist and their discography? Where do you buy your music? Lately, I have been watching this sites forum “What are you listening to right now?” It is like being privileged to rummage through your personal collection. It mostly reminds me of an artist that I have not listened to in quite sometime. It gets me out of the same old rut. THANKS! I subscribe to “Relix” and “Blues Revue” which come with sample disk. Some of the artist I don’t care for. Then some I think “Why have I never heard of them before”, and “I want more”. So I look them up and buy one of their albums. I suppose that is exactly why artist want their music in these samplers. I also get suggestion from my daughters. They know what I like. In turn I forward all my samplers to them. I also have collected a lot of the “Paste” magazine samplers. Unfortunately, they are out of business now. I tend to research artist at Allmusic.com and Amazon reviews & recommendation. I also look for artist website. All of which have samples to hear. I usually purchase my CD’s on Amazon, half.com, eBay, and sometimes the artist website. Rarely do I have time to hit the pawn shops, but sometimes you can find old treasures.
