  1. Very cool. Don't often get many scores like that in life. Do you already have a home theater setup it will be used with?
  2. Welcome Carlos! We're looking forward to pictures.
  3. You mentioned in reply to @Ar9Jim that you would get the distortion at idle while sitting still and when adjusting the volume. That may indicate that the issue may be more/other than the pot. As cleaning a dirty pot as you've now done is pretty often successful, perhaps it's time to get the whole unit to a skilled shop for repair? An added benefit is that you could also have the whole unit checked against spec, service bulletins applied, and any questionable components replaced so that you could get many years of enjoyment from it.
  4. Nice! They will love the power from that M-400
  5. Welcome Bob! That's going to be a nice sounding workshop...what are you planning for speakers?
  6. Welcome! That MXR-150 is a nice piece of equipment. I have one in my 'to-be-restored' pile. If you have time, share some pictures and let everyone know how the restoration is going.
  7. Welcome! You are at the right place if you're hooked on Carver 🙂
  8. Welcome! Those 686's are nice speakers for a smaller space. The C2 & M500T should really make them perform.
  9. Welcome! If you haven't already found them, TCS has many of the Carver service manuals in the 'Manuals and Specsheets' pulldown at the top of any page.
  10. Welcome @BigC3103! Glad you found the service manual - keep us posted on your progress.
  11. Welcome! Regarding MOSFETs, they have some advantages at high frequencies and in terms of efficiency although they can be a bit picky to bias, but in any well-designed audio amplifier circuit, using MOSFETs or BJTs should produce really nice output. Good luck with the search for some DCM speakers. How much space do you have? The large floor standing models like the TF400s sound great but they do take up a lot of space.
  12. A year is nothing, lol Glad you've been successful!
  13. Thanks for sharing. It's always interesting to see what selections are made for speaker testing. I would agree with some of what's posted, don't agree with some others, and will admit I don't even know some of the titles. For a lot of design work, it's mostly listening to mono pink noise. But here's a list of some actual music I work with for car audio that you might like to try: Steely Dan, "Hey Nineteen" - lots of sharp, clean hits. Tom Petty, "Learning to Fly (Live)" - At one point the crowd starts singing along and Tom's voice drops out and if the system is good, you can get a real sense of the size of the auditorium. If the system isn't that great, the soundstage sort of collapses. Bruno Mars, "24K Magic" - very wide soundstage with a lot of instruments. Very full range. Winterplay, "Billy Jean" - simple clear female vocal with an upright bass and a couple other instruments. Simpler is sometimes better. Great with Sonic Holography. Dave Brubeck Quartet, "Take Five" - Listen for the hi-hat and cymbals in intro. Cymbals are hard to record and reproduce well. This recording is very natural and instruments are well spaced. Straight no Chaser, "Homeward Bound" - all a cappella and the vocals span all the way across the stage. You should be able to hear each person singing. I think most of these can be found on YT. Here's Winterplay which I never get tired of listening to:
  14. Welcome back! Sounds like your careful planning yielded a very nice system. Looking forward to some pics.
  15. Is there some general description of the event somewhere?
  16. Latin for 'New Day' or 'New Life' - what I'm trying to give some of these old pieces of equipment. As to the voice, many, many years ago I was in broadcast radio - until I learned that it didn't pay any money, lol. But I'll be doing more videos - that Golden Hour clock I picked up may be next.
