  1. Welcome! You've got a couple nice pieces there. What are you using for speakers right now?
  2. Welcome Paul, As you pointed out, 30+ years is a long time for a piece of audio gear. Components do wear out and even if there aren't outright failures in those same components, normal degradation may adversely affect audio quality. But the good news is that almost all these pieces of Carver gear can be serviced & restored and brought to good-as-new or better-than-new condition. So in your particular case, it seems to me that the pluses are you can demo the unit and if it's all working, you can just drop it in your rack and start enjoying it. And if something dies down the road, you can ship it for repair. The downside is that if it dies in a relatively short period of time, you can end up with a total cost (initial + repair) way beyond the market value. But that's the risk for using any piece of unrestored vintage audio gear. That price on the one you're looking at does seem to be full retail. For context, here's one in Canada on eBay for $299 C. They do come up for sale with some regularity if you feel like waiting. But if you're OK with the idea of some risk of using an unrestored vintage piece of audio gear, it's the model you want, it's in great condition, and the pickup logistics work for you, then it sounds like you should jump on it. Good luck!
  3. Welcome! You've got a couple of really nice units there and it sounds like you can enjoy them while you check out various refurbishment options. I did a C-4000 last year and while it was a lot of work, it turned out beautiful - dead quiet, too.
  4. Welcome!
  5. Welcome! Sounds like you have some nice gear. Looking forward to pictures.
  6. Welcome! Sounds like you've already got some nice pieces of equipment to enjoy. Post some pictures when you are able.
  7. Here's one that's definitely different. I was working at my desk and had YouTube open and this popped up. The picture was so good that I took a listen. For the right mood & time of day, I like it 🙂
  8. Welcome and nice pickup on those Carver amps. I'd say definitely worth hanging on to and putting to use. And while we don't have a copy of the service manuals here (yet), I do see that there's one available on eBay for $15 if you need it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/362350451556
  9. Sounds like you had a lot of fun on the build. Post some pictures when able.
  10. Welcome! That's a nice setup you have.
  11. Welcome Sean!
  12. Welcome! And nice scores on the MXR150 and M-500T. I'd love to find some of those for free around here
  13. Go to the Browse pulldown at the top of any page and choose Forums Then scroll down about halfway down the page and you'll see a listing of all the major forum categories. Sub-forums for more specific content will then be listed under each heading and some of those have additional sub-forums. Look for the closest match to your topic and select it. You'll then see a listing of current threads. To start a new topic, click the link to the right side of the page.
  14. Welcome! If you haven't already located them, the service and owner's manuals for your amps are located up in the 'Manuals and Specsheets' pulldown at the top of any page. The Carver amps of this vintage are very serviceable.
  15. Hello Nick and welcome! I'm sure some members here that regularly run the M500t will add their feedback for you, but I don't think the M500t would have any problem with the AR-LST. In its stock form it is rated for over 300 watts per channel into 4-ohm loads. For your reference, the Owners and Service Manuals for this amp are on the site located in the 'Manuals and Specsheets' pulldown at the top of any page. I don't believe there are any factory service bulletins for the amp (aside from a note about replacement component spacing on the board), but there is a mk II modification that's available. More info here. That mod info is available, and a good service shop should be able to do that work, but I think there may also be some merit in simply using the amp as-is for a while and seeing how you like the performance in your system. Assuming the amp you are looking at is in good electrical condition, it is a very nice performer in its stock form.
  16. Hi Clarence and welcome! I like the B&O turntable in your mix🙂. They made some cool looking equipment - I just finished repairing a B&O 2400 receiver for a friend and it was a very interesting project. And while I only heard them briefly, I did get to listen to those Pioneer CS-R700 beasts. I had a friend who requested my help rebuilding/upgrading the crossovers. Those 12" woofers in the ported cabinets have some solid low end. That AVR-100 is a great receiver. I did a minor repair on one years ago and liked it. Good power output. How do you have the CS-R700s positioned in your living room? Speaker placement in general living space is always a compromise.
