Sk1Bum 11,403 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 I found a pair of these SVS PB Ultra-2s at an estate sale, and I'd like to know if anyone knows anything about them. They're priced at $800 each, but I didn't know that until I got there. I took $1K to spend for both, but they also had a sign that stated these will not be marked down. The wood finish is good, a little fading on the controls, and a bit of dust in the reflex port. I'd say the overall condition was an 8 of 10. They're 28" deep, 26.5" tall, 19" wide, and they weigh 190 lbs. Disregard the not for sale sticky note. That was on something else. I found this on Audioholics: https://www.audioholics.com/trade-shows/2006-consumer-electronics-show-ces/sv-sound-svs-pb12-ultra-2-subwoofer So, my question is, What do y'all think they're worth?
Daddyjt 9,612 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 I’d say $1,000 for BOTH is a fair price. That is an older model, but near the top of the line at the time they were in the lineup. I recently became an SVS owner, as one of my beloved Velodyne DD18 subs was damaged in the flood, and Velodyne doesn’t seem committed to the sub market any longer. I snagged a SB 4000 (SB= sealed box) for $700 on the local classifieds. It’s a beast with a 13” driver and something like 800 rms. my initial impressions of the SVS are very positive. I’m using it in my 2ch setup right now (I know, sacrilege), as I haven’t started rebuilding the HT yet. It blends quite well with the NhTs, and the Bluetooth app is the bomb for controlling it. 5
stereo_dog 1,216 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 205# each, holy moly! These are huge. Another steller write-up: https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/svs-pb2-ultra-test-review.180935/ 2

Sk1Bum 11,403 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 LOL I didn't go back today, so I don't know if they sold or not. The reviews I read were from 2004, so like you said, they're a little long in the tooth. The amps and crossovers probably need refreshing, and I can get a new pair of Martin Logan 1000w's for $1396 includes shipping. I may end up going that route. That said, if a great deal falls in my lap... 5

4krow 6,585 Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I will admit that I have had the best luck with 2 subs. $800 for one older sub? I wouldn't because that is one piece of gear that can be totally abused. 2

Daddyjt I just purchased a new SB4000 polished black, i'm enjoying what it's doing in my system especially cleaning up the vocal's. Brian 3

Brian congrats! I knew going in that the ported model (PB 4000) has a bit lower end and more prodigious output, but for me, there’s really no substitute for the accuracy of the sealed (SB) version. I also really enjoy their app - its very intuitive, and it’s nice not to have another remote to keep track of. Mine is usually set at -14 for music. How about you? 1
