Hi All,

New member here. Big into cars and guitars, and if course live listening to music as well. I was using an 80s vintage JVC receiver cant remember the model) through Yamaha speakers until last year when a moving accident ended the receiver.

A relative happen to have an MXR-130 in mint condition that he GAVE me. Very generous of him.

Anyway, last month my wife asked my 5 year old son to turn the volume down (normally not allowed to touch the stereo cabinet). Not his fault but he turned it down past the limit and now the volume control is binding. I took the covers off and visually inspected the pot (?) and there are frayed wires spun around the axis.

I contacted an outfit near me that can work on these units, but it sounds like Id need to spring for a package deal including some upgrades and refresh for other parts.

He declined to sell me the part alone, which I understand.

Does anyone know where to locate a volume board or even the pot(?) itself?

It sounded spectacular when it worked so id hate to just part the thing out.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello Alpha_Metal, and welcome to thecarversite.com

While I'm no tech by any stretch of the imagination, you might try Mouser, Digikey, or maybe @Circuits & Concepts. Circuits & Concepts has an ebay store and he sells a lot of Carver parts. He might have the pot you're looking for, or know a suitable replacement. Les is also a member here.

I hope that helps.

@Alfa_Metal Welcome to the Carver site!

Did the pot in question have any markings on it, like 150KBX2?

I googled the part# when I first took it apart with no luck. Ill have to look at it again in the AM.

And thank you for the warm welcome.

Welcome @Alfa_Metal, glad you found us!

Many parts in older units are, or already have, transitioned to "unobtanium."  You're on the right path, to look/search for it as you are.

Occasionally, you might find a parts unit, or a unit parted out, with the parts listed, on eBay.  Take care that you don't end up with (or spend too much on) parts that might be counterfeit.

Again, glad you found us.

Welcome to the site. Greg @ Nelionaudio might have the part you need. Send him a message through his service email. He now has the receiver collection that I had.

VR452 is a 150k pot but I believe I used a 200k pot from another model before. You can still find pots that will work. Sometimes it just takes some digging.

Great advice from @Rob to touch base with Greg.

This link has a pot from a different unit but has the same rating as what is used in the 130. It might be a candidate to keep in mind if all else fails.
